Illinois...

I had one of the one below. But I fill it up and the water just runs out. Bought another because water was freezing and it works if perfectly straight. But if the wind blows and the cord pulls it off the slightest angle it dumps all the water.
I have 2 of the non heated and now both dump out. I've made something last year with spouts (like nipples) and it worked great till it froze and cracked.
BReeder what one do you have?
There's probably a micro-crack in the "lid" portion. This happened to me too. It would be nice to be able to just replace the top :tongue

x2

This type of waterer can be tricky and if a crack forms in either piece = flooded ground

We have several of the unheated kind. My son is in charge of filling all the waterers. He breaks them or puts them on uneven ground. Never on purpose, but it happens. We often get them in spring when they have a really good sale. Sometimes even free with a purchase of __X__ .

I prefer the clean bucket waterer and always have it filled. However, the chickens prefer to dip their beaks into this type of waterer. If I want to reduce the amount of puddle water they drink when free ranging, we need a few water founts around the yard.

I bet that chicken no longer has teeth...... :idunno
My longest living chicken pulled 13 years. It was a Silver Sebright. Yes,,, just like Faraday's Trouble:love
Next longest was an EE. that went 11 years, but fell victim to predator. :(

Is your waterer hanging, or on a somewhat level surface. If off level, then it will drain dry.
If there is a hairline crack on top portion, and you can spot it, then just epoxy that area sealed.
99 cents worth of 5 minute epoxy is way better than new waterer at $30

Oh and all of Angel's eggs are good too. Not sure how to integrate those since they are a week behind. May be bring the ones that make it to hatch back to one of your broodies if Phoe or Pip aren't willing to mother?
Great! I'm really looking forward to seeing more lav bowling balls!!!!

As far as the bantams, you could allow one hen to mother what hatches now & pull the other out to sit on one of the later eggs due in 2 weeks. That's what I did with my bantams. Mai Mai got the 1st chick, Xansie got the second one (a week later), and I allowed Sesame to sit on the orp eggs. I removed the hens with chicks for a bout 5 days to allow them to bond and the remaining hen to bond with the new eggs.

Of course now I have 3 hens sitting on those 2 orp eggs! Debating bringing out the incubator and allowing one of them to care for a clutch of incubator chicks. I promised my Cloverbud kids that we would hatch together for our project.

See, that's the problem. I just did that. I literally had 3 different batches going. I gave pip the one lone hatch that they were sharing. Moved Phoe to the 2nd backups yesterday just in time (1st backups perished, i still need to eggtospy them). Now there's Angel's due 10ish days. Unless something happens to Pips lone chick, I might have a hard time getting one of them to adopt.

I have (had) cord hanging from top. When they bump it the cord would hold at angle and it would empty. The one I had previously emptied even when perfectly straight. I'm more frustrated than anything that stores provide an inferior product. As with my coop/run design I want something done right even if it costs more. I dont like being bothered by doing something twice. I dont have a lot of spare time to fiddle. I spent $45 on this waterer it should be problem solved. And maybe I'm crabby and venting lol.

Yes that would be very annoying.

The bucket kind with nipples is about the same price. The design idea is the same as mine, so I doubt they leak. (I don't actually have one but if I needed one, I'd buy this kind) Perhaps they'll be on clearance this time of year.
