Illinois...

Yes that would be very annoying.

The bucket kind with nipples is about the same price. The design idea is the same as mine, so I doubt they leak. (I don't actually have one but if I needed one, I'd buy this kind) Perhaps they'll be on clearance this time of year.

That's exactly what I have.

So very sad tonight. Something (or someone) killed my sweet "puppy" my young silver lacd cockerel. Not a single bite mark. It very well could have been Ranger when we were out very early this morning. But i never heard any commotion. Just the sound of happy chickens clucking while eating their corn and cocka-doodle-doing. He was absolutely stunning, maybe even more so than Taji. 😥

Not Puppy!:hit I know I gave him to you as a "packing peanut" to keep his sister company, but he was such a sweetheart.
I'm very sorry for your loss. :hugs

What are symptoms of egg bound and when do I worry or intervene? She is just standing around with her head tucked back . She walks slow. She is normally the one to jump to my shoulder. No sign of injury other than she had a wet back from a moment with the roo.

Egg binding usually has a strange upright walk - kind of like a penguin or the stance they take during the final push out of the egg. You could probably gently feel around the area of the vent for an egg or carefully use a lubed glove & finger. Her comb color looks like she's healthy & laying, so it could be that. I've never done the glove test, but if I suspect a hen is egg bound, I just give her a little spa time in a warm tub followed by some rest in a quiet darkened area. They really like soaking, it relaxes them, and why not have a clean hen. I also feed a little extra crushed eggshell to increase calcium.

Check her crop and feel her bones. Chickens hide injuries & illnesses well. Perhaps the roo was too rough and pulled a muscle. Hard to tell.

I hope others have some ideas.

Since Phoes eggs are dye snyday, i went ahead a moved the lone egg down to the bigger inky to finish hatch. Today, no movement. I put the other inkys temp and humidity gauge down to double check even though the inkys guages were saying 99.6 and 54%. I went outside and came back in and the temp guage register 105! I have killed 4 babies because of this!!!! Now i need to find a replacent guage to fix it! I also looked at Phoes eggs. It looks like 2 more have quit and only 1 still going and its looking really strange. Like the air cell is on the side. But i still see movement.
