Illinois...

Do you all think converting a wood, metal or plastic shed would be best in our climate? I have started looking at Home Depot to see what I can get without a huge delay. I was thinking wood is probably the easiest to modify and build onto but plastic might be more weather resistant. But then I saw reviews that some plastic sheds fall over in a decent wind. Yikes!!! What have you all seen here in our lovely Midwest "anything goes" weather?

Prefer wood myself. Stronger, affordable, and made in this country (usually).

Shes been in all day and her crop has gone down. But when should I introduce food again? I gave her some more yogurt. Hard to say if she ate more, or is wearing more.....
How's CCL doing this morning?
Have you tried some electrolytes in the water? How's her poop? Will she eat? If you think it's a crop issue there are some good BYC threads describing the symptoms and treatment. If her crop emptied overnight, then you know food is moving through.

Any other birds acting lethargic? (like cocci or something else)
Any lice or mites? (if too much feeding on her, she can become anemic)
Could she have eaten something bad? (found something moldy or rotting)
Could she just be broody?

I'm not an expert, just trying to throw out some ideas that may help.

Wood is easier to cut a pop door and add ventilation.
Plastic and metal tend to blow down.
Metal can have condensation issues

All are good, buy each has its drawbacks, and advantages.
Wood shed is good, and easy to work with. Will rot in due time, but that is some years down the road. In pretty much all cases, it comes as a kit to build it yourself.
Not pack up and take home ready. You do not seem to have the ability/tools/time,, to do such at this time, so not the ideal choice.

Metal sheds are durable, and last somewhat longer than wood, but nothing is forever. They will condensate more than other materials, unless insulated interior.
Placing pop door openings is somewhat easy, and adding windows and ventilation, also not that difficult. The challenging part is the kit assembly. Yes,, I have done it,, and do know that you need to follow every step just as instructed. It comes in a box containing a bunch of panels, and angles. Time consuming, but end product is a secure coop, that will last pretty long.

Now to plastic,,,, my choice BTW, and here are reasons. Rot resistant. Pretty, if you choose one such. Sufficiently secure, excepts against Yogi Bear. Comes as a kit, but easier to assemble than metal, and wood.
Some challenges; installing windows, pop door, and ventilation does require patience, as well as supply of different things like trim wood, and other hardware/screws. One pictured below is worth $500.

I am in the process of building my replacement coop, and it will be approximate size as the one pictured. My progress is slower than my desire..:old:th
I will be building from wood, and have most of materials on hand from other projects leftover.
My current coop is a repurposed Lil Tykes Playhouse. Plastic. :yesss:
