We have a pink chicken today.

Cornish x are different than “normal” chickens...less time to processing date but more work involved than my mixed layer flock.
Mine are outside in a tractor during the day and “herded” back into their coop at night. I clean the overnight mess and sprinkle sweet pdz and/or DE over the sand bedding after moving them out each morning. I move the tractor after they exit each evening and spray/meltdown all the droppings to eliminate the chance of flies laying eggs in them. Both of these measures also help keep the smell down.

How many are you raising?

Well thank goodness for the reprieve in the weather today, right? when I got up this morning & went outside I was ready to move out of Illinois. Between the heat, humidity, and mosquito Armageddon I thought I'd had about enough. I'm pleased to say it's such a wonderful evening now, I've decided to stay.

I know i came out this morning expecting it to be less humid and was so disappointed. Thankfully the cooler air moved in rather quickly.

I was glad that I procrastinated in starting the gardening today. I went out in the late afternoon and it was cool & breezy.

DS had a great time plucking cicadas off the trees for the chickens. Often he'd throw one at the ground but while falling it would take flight. Instant chicken exercise as they chased their treats! Or even better was when I'd shake a branch & they'd fly everywhere.
