Illinois...

DS has swollen tonsils. Riding through the night with motrin and getting to the doc at 9am tomorrow. He's 5. I was about that age when my tonsils were removed. DW had hers removed as a kid too. I just made changes to our health insurance last month, and now I might be wishing I kept it at the higher premium. Still PPO coverage, but now on an alternative plan that's a lower premium but deductible has to be met before coverage is provided. We expected to hit the deductible, but not until April. Hoping surgery isn't in his future and it's just a script for antibiotics and he gets all better soon.
I used to get swollen tonsils when I was young. Always got penicillin, and all went away. Tonsils are actually good to have.. I would not rush to get removed. Still have mine, and rarely have any issues in adult age.
Hoping for your son to overcome this quickly. :hugs Before you make the decision, get more than one opinion. :thumbsup

:oldwise words!

Here's a recent CL ad from where 2 of my seramas came. (I did not pay this much, but a friend did. She ended up giving me her seramas as a gift so I could add new genetics to my flock.) Mine do not carry the frizzle gene like the one below, but I've been playing around with breeding silkied sermas since 2017. I do not show them but some are exceptionally smart. Styx (a MGB) has the recognition of being our piano-playing chicken, but "Popcorn" (a serama) picked up target training much faster. She's actually the smartest chicken we've ever owned and enjoys showing off. Popcorn could hit the keys in rapid fire but not with enough force to reliably make sound.

Wow 😱

Although I spent that much on dark Cornish eggs and only one of over 3 dz hatched.

Yes, showline Serama prices can go very high. I really only want happy, pretty, tiny chickens, so we don't bother showing them. I of course like to hatch, so I spread my useless chickens around and even got @homeschoolin momma into them. The main problem is that those little eggs are so darn cute. Somehow they end up in my incubator. Then seramas also like to go broody and hatch even more!!!!
