Illinois...

Just dropping in with a wave! This thread fell off my alerts probably since I was on vacation until the 9th and then we've been quiet. How's everybody? Back to school blues or celebrations? I'm never ready for the summer to be over but I do like to consistency of a schedule that comes with school and fall sports starting and everything else.

My dogs and chickens are pretty ticked off this week because my lawn company showed up out of nowhere yesterday and started digging up the yard. Turns out they decided to do ALL the projects I had been asking about for about 2 years THIS WEEK both without any notice and of course it will come with a hefty bill that would have been spread out over 2 years had they been on top of it. On the upside, when I can let the ladies out, there are a lot of new bugs with all the digging. On the downside, they are cooped up a lot more than they're used to and not happy.

Good thing you didn't have a party or wedding planned for the yard 🙄
Should be cheaper to do all at once rather than haul everything back and forth over a couple years

That's exactly what I said! And it's a good thing this wasn't while I was on vacation because if the 16 year old girl that was taking care of my critters looked out back and saw people just digging trenches, she'd have flipped out.

It's cheaper for them to do it all at once, but not really for me. Partly because it would have been a little here and there, partly because some of the stuff is much worse now than it was when I first asked him about it and partly because I am divorced now and these are things that would have been jointly paid if they had been done over the last 2 years and now it's all just me. But....I guess at least it's going to be done....trying to look at the silver lining.

This weekend was the state fair in Springfield. DS decided to bring his computer science project. He designed and coded his own video game. Competition was tough because each kid was already champion from his/her county. Most of the computer science kids were in high school so he was very excited to win reserve champion (2nd place in all of Illinois). Not bad for an 11 yr old!

My kids like the 'Conservation World'. (They got to try archery, BB gun, rock climbing, fishing, etc.)

Congratulations 🎉👏

You forgot to include fact,,,, 2 years ago,, the wages (labor) were lower. Now due to inflation, everyone raised their prices. :(

Yes!!!!!!! These guys have increased their rates so much that I am about to start paying my kid to do it all. Sadly, they started back at school today so they don't have the free time to do it. But next summer for sure!! I can pay my teenage son less than half of what they charge and he'd be thrilled to get it AND learning life skills.
