Illinois...

White Hollands originated from sports off Bronze.
In the meantime, I've gotten another solid white chick, and a couple greyish looking ones, and even one that looks like a blue.

Have a feeling there is something like narragansett hiding in the background.

We wont know the exact location until its time to move but I do believe its going to be within city limits : ( UGH!

Live about a hour southeast of Mt. Vernon. Anyone in my area? Would love to find hatching eggs within driving distance instead of shipping them in.

IL peeps.... We will have 1/2 of beef ready to butcher is apx. 1 month. We are keeping the other half for our freezer. She has been grassfed up until 40 days ago when put to a finishing ration. This is a heifer that was originally slated to be a keeper, until the preg check released that she is a non-breeder.

She will be priced on a live weight basis based off current market price the week before she is to be slaughtered. The buyer will be responsible for 1/2 of that cost, as well as 1/2 the processing fees.

PM for location, and other questions. .

Not sure if anyone is interested, but there is going to be a GMO labeling event in Normal June 20th at 10am
the more people we get there the better

Hi Illinoisans!

I am from Sullivan IL (East-Central) and am very excited to have found this Illinois-specific thread! My kids and I are currently have guineas, a pilgrim goose,a trio of black-tailed white Japanese bantams, (8) roman tufted geese from Metzger's on the way next week, and a really nice little flock of Icelandic Chickens that we got directly from Lyle Behl. I am interested in finding someone in the area that has cochin and/or buff brahma bantams.

I am wanting to get some broody bantams so the kids can hatch different birds. We have recently moved back to the country and are having a fun time populating our "mini-farm".

and to the BYC thread!

Sounds like you are having fun with your return to the country! I have Icelandics and find they make great broodies. Mine did not come directly from Lyle but my original two hens (now three years old and one is currently raising two Norwegian Jaerhorn chicks for a friend) are from a flock that originated from his. If any of yours are old enough, they should do the brooding for you.

Here is a picture of the above mentioned hen with "her" two chicks at five weeks...

...and here is the link to the Icelandic thread here on BYC.....just in case you'd like to join us there.....

Thanks NotAFArm!

2 of my Icelandics came from Lyle's importation, and 1 of my hens was imported by someone named Sigrid (from California I think). They are all 2 years old, but haven't gone broody for me yet.

I will check out the Icelandic Forum. Thanks! Zak

My rooster is from Sigrid's line. She is from Iceland originally and lives in California now. I look forward to "seeing" you over on the Icelandic thread......we have a fun group there!
What seems to help is to let a nest build up (I use golf balls, others use ceramic or wooden eggs). When I collect eggs, I leave a golf ball in place of it. Eventually, there is a "full nest". They seem be drawn toward a "fuller nest" and it triggers their broody hormones. Of course, some will go broody on an empty nest..........
