Hey all! South of Springfield here. My husband and I, along with our three kids, have 16 layers and 1 roo(oops!) and did our first batch of Cornish X's earlier this summer.
Does anyone sell USDA processed meat? I'm trying to find some pricing guidelines. Also I've tried to get ahold of Public Health to make sure we are ok'd to sell the meat retail but haven't gotten my calls returned.

I'm up by Peoria. We saved 3 ducks today that someone dumped in pekin. We caught 3 of the 5 pekin (pekin ducks in pekin, haha) We are going back next week for the other 2 pekins. Did anyone else here about them being dumped there/seen them there?

Is it true that it's illegal to sell eggs in Illinois as a backyard chicken keeper? Something about a 'cottage law'?

And a complete overview

Basically if you are selling small volumes from your own property where the chickens are located to household customers, no issues at the Federal/State level, that doesn't mean there isn't a local ordinance against it...

And while I'm here...

I'm from the far North Eastern corner of Illinois, Lake Villa to be exact...

Currently have goats, llamas, chickens, guineafowl and peafowl...

Are any chicken farms in my area? I live in Bloomington IL. I live close to gipson city an also Lee roy and Towanda. Anyone near by?

"must be sold on the premises where the flock is located"

We have egg chickens that aren't laying yet, but we intend to sell some of our eggs once we have them. Does this mean that I can't sell them to people I work with? That they would have to come to my house to get them? Or does this just mean we can't take them to a farmer's market or set up a roadside stand?

Also, just out of curiosity, for those of you that do sell your eggs, how much do you charge?

Technically yes the law says taking them to work and selling them is 'illegal' but I highly doubt any prosecutor would charge you for selling small volumes to fellow co-workers... A roadside stand or farmers market is another story, but again I doubt that prosecutors go around looking to charge small time hobby farms for a few eggs...
