Illinois...

I think my 2 girls are going to be ok. My partridge is eating and drinking on her own and there has not been anymore bloody poop. Gave them some tuna and eggs for lunch and they loved the tuna!

Also checked on the 2 eggs I slipped under the broody this am when she jumped off to eat and poop. 1 egg looked like it might have began to hatch but was flattened. She must have stepped on it. The other co parent broody, saw it and picked it up and took it out of the nesting box. I just went out to make sure she was back on the remaining egg and I heard her making some soft noises, then I heard a peep. I have 2 that hatched in the bator. Now what should I do? If I put them outside under the broody, should I buy medicated feed so they don't end up with Cocci? Is it ok for my broody to eat?

Edited Sunday morning
I thought I heard peeps yesterday under the broody, and since it was only 1 egg under her, I didn't want the chick to be alone. So I slipped another chick under her last nite. Well after I fixed up there new little spot and went and moved them, I discovered the egg did not hatch. SO, I am going to try to slip the other 3 under her tonight. I bought medicated feed, so I don't end up with Cocci again. Has anyone else used the medicated feed?

I also believe I know what caused the Cocci in my other young chicks. Every night I sweep up the patio and then spray it all down with the hose. I was creating the perfect conditions for the Cocci by keeping everything moist. The shingles are going on the roof of the new coop today and hopefully they will be moved in by the weekend.

Glad to hear everyone's getting better! My chicks were on medicated feed before and after I got them, I want to say until they were 6-8 weeks? I'll have to go back and look, but it was a 40lb bag of medicated starter for 8 chicks. You'll have to toss eggs if your hens are on it. When that ran out I moved to non-medicated grower. It sounds like you are doing all the right things in treating your birds, my neighbors salmon faverolle chicks all died presumably from cocci very quickly after hatching. Can you separate them from the rest of the flock?

@ChicagoClucker
Got my fingers crossed too praying for your babies

Faraday40 I have read that certain breeds are better mousers than others buckeyes are apparently known for it. I've never seen my girls after a mouse or gopher of course they have plenty of bugs to chase.
I'll let you know when my Bucks are bigger! My neighbors Orp catches mice and toads all the time - ICK!. I never saw my old chickens catch anything, in fact one spring when I hoed out the coop I displaced a very put-out vole who had been living in the bedding.

Princess update: She looks miserable but was able to go back outside b/c the weather warmed.

Cuddles update: Eating is back to normal - which means well-above average. She's also back up in the pecking order. Her only problem is the molt.. She appears so scrawny w/o her feathers. Right now I have several, silly-looking, tailless chickens.

Pullet "Hen Solo" on left & Hen "Dolores" (mid molt) on right

Crazy little Sebright, "Trouble," likes to jump up into the tree, so she can look me in the eye.

Well, rather than do housework or useful yard work I spent a good chunk of Sunday building my new nesting box! I just need to paint and seal.
I hope my dopey SF Hen Twyla will lay in it, I put in a couple wooden eggs borrowed from my friend. I hope it will keep the eggs clean and easy to gather since (with fingers crossed) I'll have four egg layers.
I also had my Buckeye cockerel Bumble to consider, he has Giant dino-feet ready to step on any eggs laying around!

How are the new chicks?...and how many? Did your broody take all of them?

How are the other chickens doing? Did the cocci treatment work?

The new bantam cochin chicks are adorable. All 4 from the incubator hatched and they all look to be mottled. I am not sure if the other egg under my broody Clara hatched or not. I will check tomorrow, it will be the 25th day. I am assuming she took them all, I slipped the other 3 under her last nite. Sat out by them today for a bit, but the most I saw were 2 peeking out from under mom. It has been fun to watch as all the other hens hear the little peeps. I have had 4 different girls and my 2 Orp roos go and just sit in there to try and catch a glimpse of the chicks. Dolly, my RIR, decided she wanted to hatch some and jumped in the above nesting box and began to tuck all the eggs under her. Within an hour she was over it and left.

My GL and Partridge are doing Great! No more blood and they are both eating. The Corid did work, I am so glad I listened to you and everyone else and went to Rural King, I am sure that 1 day made a difference to my Partridge. Yesterday was their 5th and last day on the Corid. So I am watching them and their poop. I did treat all my older guys too, just in case. It really sent me in a panic, that my GL boy went so fast, I wasn't go to chance it with everyone else. Its such a shame tossing all those eggs though. Does anyone know how long the egg withdrawal time is after using Corid?

I have been on a bad luck run like you were Faraday. First the Cocci and now my SLOrp. Yesterday my son was putting the shingles on the coop and jumped off the ladder. Well, chickens went scrambling and he landed on my Silver Laced Orps leg. I looked and it doesn't seem to be broken, but he is limping, and holding it up when standing still. I have kept him by himself with food and water yesterday and today. I hope by keeping him in, he can get some rest, so his leg will heal. There is no break in the skin or swelling so I am hoping he will be ok.

Glad to see Cuddles back to normal and Princess has regrown some of those breast feathers. Last hatch of the season is this Friday with the Blue Isbars. All eggs still look good, we shall see come Friday. Oh, and my Splash Orps 1 little girl had splayed legs so have had the straw and rubberband holding her legs together for the last 4 days, it will come off tomorrow nite. It worked well for my Ameraucanas so, fingers crossed.

Thanks to everyone for all the encouraging words and advice. I don't know where I would be without all of your help. Thanks again!
