I don't have any idea on how to stop it. I am sorry.Leaking Yolk!
I helped a chick out of the egg today (Day 22) because it had externally pipped 30 hrs ago and stopped. I only took the pipped side of the shell off and left it back in the incubator. The chick came out after couple of hrs but is really bones and a big belly. Its also leaking yolk. I tried to apply corn starch but its not sticking. There is no visible yolk sac but its leaking from where the umbilical cord was supposed to be attached.
Any idea how to help. Thanks in advance!
"Learnt my lessen once more that if a chick is not hatching its not meant to be"
Are there any that are first time broody? Some broody mamas can do that first time because they think its a mouse under them. If they are sitting together, they can fight over chicks as well.I don't have any idea on how to stop it. I am sorry.
I am also having problems with chicks. My broody mama's have begun hatching chicks. The problem is, I found 2 of the Orpington chicks dead yesterday evening and 2 more that hatched overnight or this am, I found them bloodied this morning. 5 cochin bantam chicks have hatched and are being taken care of. I brought the 2 bloodied chicks in and cleaned them up, 1 chicks eye looks bad and the other chicks ear and back. I put them in the incubator to warm up. And up until now, seem to be doing a little better. I also grabbed some of the eggs that 1 of the broodies abandoned after her 2 chicks hatched. So far 3 more cochins hatched and 1 orp egg pip. I don't understand what is going on. Why would they do that?

yolk leak has slowed down. It is inside a plastic bowl in the brooder but moving around too much. Its so skinny I am afraid it will die of exhaustion or splay its legs. All 5 are first timers. I have 2 hens with cochin chicks, and 3 more still sitting on eggs. Those are the 3 that have killed or injured the orpingtons. I am going to see if anymore chicks hatched tomorrow morning, and will remove them.
How is your chick doing?
Maybe cut a paper towel to fit in the bowl. It would help so he won't splay the leg and might help settle him down. Good Luckyolk leak has slowed down. It is inside a plastic bowl in the brooder but moving around too much. Its so skinny I am afraid it will die of exhaustion or splay its legs.
