Illinois...

I saw a JULIE truck scooting about the Drury/Shorewood area today.  Did they come and mark yet?

The gas company showed up at 8am sharp right at the deadline and marked the gas line, that is really the only one I was concerned about in the dig area...

As I said previous I got an email from the Department of Transportation saying all clear to street drainage and traffic control wiring, they left a nice big green blob of paint by the mailbox...

No word from AT&T, ComEd or Comcast, I can understand AT&T and Comcast as their lines are overhead, but there are two buried electrical service feeds, one for the house and one for the first barn that are unmarked...

Glad to hear the chicks are behaving, and I will get some eggs set aside for you...

that's a lot of hurry up and wait, MeepBeep...

First week report is pretty good here: 20 eggs (all but 2 were pullet sized) from the 5 Red Stars. Successful introduction to the cats & the dog. A little bit of free ranging although the chicken door isn't making sense to them (even when I assist).

The six BRs are doing well - good appetite. Went ahead and bought organic grower for everyone. The BRs are still in their separate area but the Red Star girls want in there - afraid they'll miss something.

Waiting today for the repairman to show and fix the big garage door on the barn (coop is in the barn). Makes me a bit anxious especially since a big mama raccoon is casing the joint.

here's a first pic of the BRs

Hi !
What kinds of chickens do you have?

Sorry to hear about the loss of Ginger. I hope you can figure out what's getting your chickens.... and then stop it from eating you flock.

As for me, we're trying to get the numbers down. DD's been hatching, so I've been selling. We sold a 1yr old Easter-Orp & an Isa Brown pullet yesterday. It's always hardest to rehome the older ones. Since these hens went to a student of mine, I asked if we could deliver them. That way DD could see them in their new happy home. Well what a home they have! They had a small yard but 1/4 of it was taken by an in-ground pool & Jacuzzi. They had a screened in pool house with bar, seating area, flat screen TV, and stone fireplace. They also had a fire pit 3 huge grills, outdoor seating area with standing heater, 2 play houses, swing set, and all sorts of ride-on toys. My kids immediately started playing & then asked to go home to get their swimsuits. I thought we'd have tears over leaving our chickens that we hatched, raised, & trained, but I only had whining to come back tomorrow.

Our overflowing incubator

I have one of them as well, considering setting up a 2nd one for Cream Legbar egg only...

Even though there is some relief when it's empty, I find myself missing it being full...

Our brooder is full again!

Another common problem ;) It's time to get my big birds out of the big brooder and into the new room I'm building in the coop, so I can rotate in new ones into that brooder...

And my ducks are growing like weeds, need to figure out what I'm going to move them into...
