Illinois...

Also I had bought a ton of the bags of jiffy popcorn from the dollar store, to fill vases for the centerpieces for my daughters shower. Its regular corn kernels, the kind you use to pop on the stove top, nothing added. Can I feed it to the chickens?
The reason not to feed whole corn to chickens, is the possibility of of choking. Cracked corn solved that. Pop corn are smaller kernels, They should go down the hatch with no problem. If you still have apprehension, then soak the corn for a day and try feeding it then. If it is soft , or slippery it should not get stuck. I never did it but it is just an Idea.

Thanks for the help. I assumed the same thing, it was small enough. I also asked a popular, long time bantam breeder about it, and she said it was fine to feed to all of them. So at least I don't have to dump 25 bucks worth of popcorn. My guys can enjoy it. Plus it gives them something to do once I toss it in the leaves I just added to their runs. They have to do a lot of scratching to find it.

Had some very nice weather, so I spent some of my day outside with my flock.
Here's Godiva. She's a good layer.

Mr Dummy's molting & has no tail - poor funny-looking roo!

Here's Godiva (a small LF orp) next to Cookie (my bantam orp) I find it funny how close in size they are!

My pretty Bielefelder below is named Hen Solo. She's a big girl & a very good layer.
Brick, a LF English orp, is standing next to her. She makes him look small.

DD did the last candling last night,

Chicken Eggs:
6/6 backyard eggs look good
5/6 of farmer market eggs look good, one was clear
+1 extra egg that was thrown in - but not part of the experiment.

Quail eggs
8/10 backyard eggs look good, 1 is a ?, 1 was clear
7/10 farmer market eggs look good, 1 is ?, 2 were clear
0/10 store eggs developed Only 1 is a ? because the shell is too thick & dark to see anything.
+ about 4-5 backyard eggs that were added just because we had them.

It's time to make some brooders! The quail should hatch Tues & the chickens on Thanksgiving. I'm so glad we were able to get the eggs started when we did. DD has off from school all week, so I know what she'll be doing. (We call it "incubator TV.")

I think my chickens are totally against any plastic period in their daily lives. Case and point:

1.Since putting the plastic on to cover the runs, the girls have stopped laying. This is for both LF and bantams. Had to buy eggs 3 days ago, uggg. Finally got a single egg today.

2.Had an appointment, and as I was leaving, I could hear 3 of the roos, crowing away. Ran in the yard and didn't see a thing, so I left and returned an hour and half later to them still crowing. Neighbors must have loved that. This time walked around front of house to the other side of the fence. There is a plastic bag stuck on neighbors side of the fence freaking them out blowing in the wind. As soon as I pulled it and walked to the other side of the house, the crowing stopped.

Perhaps my chickens could start a new campaign to do away with plastic bags. This was the 2nd time they freaked out over a plastic bag

bags are evil to mine too.. one blew in the yard and after a lot of crowing and gobbling... the turkeys chased it down and tore it to shreds

Well, went out to the coop this morning and the bowl of water I leave in the coop was frozen over. Time for the heated water bowl to come out, and I need to run and pick up another for the bantams. Since my roo Al ended up with frostbite on his comb last year, I am going to empty water bowls at lock up in the evenings. I am hoping that was the cause of the excess humidity last year, even though it seemed to be just that 1 incident. I have more bodies in the coop this year, so will have to adjust windows also. When my son built the coop he put in a ridge vent, but I still have the highest window opened a bit for airflow. I hate winter!
