Hawks want an easier meal than a GIANT AGGRESSIVE ROOSTER . Those that I lost to hawks were banties, not the large fowl. BTW, keep me on your Short list, when you go in the Spring time for those Swedish Black Beauties. One pullet from the cull batch would be just fine. Cant have roos.

I thought about putting lipstick on our "busty chick" and distracting the hawks Loony Toon style. LOL

I will I've placed multiple orders fyi they are from gff

I think they already have created these. I know there are people who raise those aggressive fighting cocks. (Still don't understand the whole concept???) Anyway, I bet those mean suckers would try to take down a hawk. Of course trying to own an aggressive bird raises a whole new set of problems. Nothing like getting a daily flogging with your morning eggs! LOL

That's why people keep turkeys, guineas, & geese with their chickens. Great hawk deterrents! (Just not an option for those of us living in neighborhoods.)

ChicagoClucker- I'm glad your little broody & chicks are OK. She must really be something to make that hawk think twice. Before we had the giant orp roos, I caught my fearless, little EE hen (Tyrion) & my EE roo literally chase away hawk. The hawk was making a low fly-by & those two were chasing, flapping, & screaming at it from the ground. The orp roos are great spotters & make the hawk warning noise while theh hens all take cover. The boys are great about making sure all the girls are inside & then on guards the entrance.
LOL, my huge Orp Roos were all in the covered run and coop squawking! I couldn't believe Clara was putting up the fight all by herself. Apparently big ole Thor, is more concerned about his looks than the girls. Bunch of wimpy roos I have over here.

Quick ? for those who may know:
My Princess (a high production hen) had a bad molt, grew back her feathers, then started laying.Nov 29-Dec 15. She now seems to be taking a break. No eggs for exactly 1 week! (Normally gives 6 eggs per week; it was 7 in her prime.) Any ideas why? Is there something I should be looking for?
