Illinois...

For Christmas my son got a chicken stuffed animal (from my daughter) & he loves it! I like how she used her own allowance to buy a toy from the school's "Santa sale." (Basically $1 store items so the kids can do their own holiday shopping. The thought is what matters.)

My SIL bought me a kitchen related gift basket with a chicken theme. Nothing really out of the ordinary, but I did have to tease her about the fact that the salt & pepper shakers were 2 roosters. Where was the hen? Doesn't she know the importance of hens? Perhaps from now on I'll only bring her the rooster eggs when I visit. LOL

Something is wrong with my Zoey. I noticed her up on the roost yesterday at feeding time and later when I went out to clean the coop. Same thing this am so brought her in. Breathing is normal, not egg bound. But her crop is empty and a little squishy, so thinking sour crop. She is fluffed up and not moving much. Not eating or drinking either. Has anyone tried the Monistat on sour crop. I found a thread on here, just wondering if anyone else has tried it. I have fixed her some scrambled eggs but she is not touching them and some Acv in her water. Going to go up and get some good yogurt. Any other recommedations? I am not even sure if it is sour crop, she doesn't have a big balloon, but it is small and squishy. I don't smell anything either. But seems like it might be the only kind of obvious thing to me, at this time.

Sunday nite, poop is normal. A lot of green, I had thrown out some full leaves of romaine and iceberg lettuce for them on Saturday. She ate and drank a bit last nite. Keeping an eye on her.

Zoe came out for a bit this evening, and she has a balloon on her lower neck, top of chest area. She didn't like when I touch it, kind of moving her head and neck away. Since she isn't touching the yogurt, I am going to water it down a bit and give it to her in a dropper and force feed it to her. Any other suggestions?

You are doing your BEST.. I hope Zoe recovers soon. Keeping her in warm area I think will help her recovery.

Sorry to hear about her. I would say keep her warm especially the swollen area. If you can give her warm wraps on it, that will soothe her pain. If its her crop, maybe it does need a day or two of rest. So I would give her water and electrolytes only for a day or two before feeding anything else.

I agree with the others that keeping her warm through all this will help. Force the fluids if needed.

Thanks everyone, I do have her in the house keeping her warm. I think it is more than sour crop, I think she is backed up or blocked up from the romaine lettuce I gave them. I picked her up and she smelled awful, I felt under her and by her vent and felt a large something by her vent and thought egg bound or worse. So put her in a warm bath and after a while she pooped a large green mostly solid poop. She has been in the house for 3 days and has only pooped 3 times and each one is barely broken down romaine lettuce. I did find a thread about sour crop and being blocked up (forgot the correct term and cannot think of it). I think I am going to follow her recommendations and see what happens. Zoey didn't care for the bath, but didn't seem to mind the blow dryer. @Junibutt , so good to hear from you. Been missing you!

Here is the link to the article just so I can find it again. LOL https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/impacted-slow-and-sour-crops-prevention-and-treatments

If things are passing thru........ GOOD SIGN OF RECOVERY

You are RIGHT!!!! I was coming down the stairs this morning and heard her doing some clucking ( which she has not made a sound in days). Won't gross you all out with a description, but she passed the big blockage. It was the romaine lettuce. Still kept her in today, so I could monitor her poops, which are normal and many, happy to say. I was one happy chicken mama, but the worry never ends. Louise CCL was puffed up and on the roost all day. She might be switching spots with Zoey tomorrow. I don't know if it was the snow, or the roos, or maybe the romaine, but she didn't come off the roost. Ugg
