CUDDLES was in a nest box!!!!!
This is a sight i haven't seen in a very long time! She was panting a bit & then jumped out. There was a warm egg. (not wet, so I can't be 100% sure it was her.) It's not a pullet-sized egg, so i'm hopeful that it was her & she's OK/healthy. Her last egg was Sept 1st, 2015, so this is a big deal here. For those of you who don't know Cuddles, she my fav chicken whom I talk about all the time. She's trained to do all kinds of tricks, responds to her name, & of course is well loved by everyone in the neighborhood. (as well as a few fans from BYC)

As for the "panting" her beak was open, but I didn't hear any noise. Kind of like a hot summer chicken, which she could feel hot in this crazy fluctuating weather. I'll keep you updated.

Theses are the little white orp I have. The legs don't seem as large to me as yours but I think mine is a cockeral. Any ideas? It's comb is not as large though as the other two cockerals.

Legs look shorter and skinnier, at least in the pic. Your chick is much more feathered out than mine and has tail feathers. My cockerel has a longer neck and seems to be much larger. Comb is confusing, looks smaller. I would have still have to say pullet if going by the size difference, feathering and legs. Reposting pics so we can compare better.

I hope it is a pullet that would be very cool. I will hold onto mine until I know for sure but I still want to lean towards cockeral. Maybe compare again in a week?

Keep the chickens you like, but if you don't know what breed, I suggest those with pea combs. They can handle our cold winters better.

Thanks for the tip! I've already got five little girls who are sweet little Barred Rocks! I decided something a bit more versatile since our summers can be just as bad as our winters. So I wanted a bird that wouldn't risk overheating in the summer. Also most pea comb breeds are primarily meat chickens, aren't they? I'm more interested in eggs, so a breed that is good at laying eggs is more my type.

Congratulations!!! I'm actually from southern WI, Rock County, but I spend a lot of time on the Illinois thread I've met some really wonderful people through BYC welcome!

How lucky I am (being sarcastic) that have a Legbar as well as a Orpington white sport. At least the white legbar is being recognized and they are writing an SOP for that.

Agree with @ChicagoClucker that so far yours looks like a pullet. BTW so far I haven't hatched any chicks like that from my current hatch. I had 3/4 eggs from the same hen but none hatched like this.

When you post the chicks next week, can you kindly post some of other chicks as well?
