Illinois...

This funny looking cat has been hanging around. Friendly as ever. Anyone thing it be a good idea to bring him into the house and feed him, and provide a nice place for him to rest. ???

Hahahahhahahhahahha well um I'm thinking it might scratch your couch... And you don't want the.... Litter.... Smell to get overbearing so ...

Sure but I would recommend tidy cats!
:p

Thats much too close lol you know they can spray I think like ten-15 feet right? Lol I don't think I would question that theory anyway lol.our great dane got herself skunked like 6 or so months ago maybe longer I forget. Anyway point being she still has a faint hint of it when wet despite several baths. Still not as bad as that night ugh we think she got most of it in the mouth and nose she was sneezing it for months! Ugh and burping it and farting it too. Ugh she was rancid from every angle. Not like you can tomato the insides though we thought about it lol and doggy breath mints were worthless. I wouldn't wish that on my enemies. Did I mention we had to take her to bed in the same room as us?! Despite reading that it can cause burning almost like chemicals the vet wasn't worried and we flushed her eyes with water although they looked ok. Just the thought of how bad her breath and everything was makes me a little nauseous lol

I actually seen one as a pet a few years ago when we were in Iowa. Cant have them as pets where we are. Obviously lil guy had his juice glands surgically removed. When I first saw it, there were a few children going up to pet him. I said to myself ""what the $%#@$%^& "" is happening. !!!!! don't they know??????? The owner had him an a very thin leash, so from a distance it looked like it was loose.

I've seen them as pets on some shows with strange pets and descented they're supposed to make pretty good pets. I just hope those kids' parents made sure to explain the difference between that one and a wild. I can't imagine if they didn't what a mess that would be. Lol sad but I'm sure there are some city kids somewhere that wouldn't know to generally avoid them lol

I get within 5 feet of them and never got sprayed YET.

I feel lucky..... One time I was trying to get one out of my garage. Every time I tried to chase him out, he would go around the car and back inside. (large door wide open). Then I got a brain storm and decided to place some cat food on the outside of the garage. Standing outside of the garage I felt something brush past my leg. Sure enough it was him going to the food that was another 5 feet away. I gently walked away and closed the garage. The garage closer motor noise scared him away, but NO SPRAY. As long as I am out there without my dogs, I do not fear at all. I gently start talking to them in soft voice saying silly things like... DON'T GO AWAY MAD...... JUST GO AWAY...

They just look at me a little, and just keep doing whatever they were doing. They dig up grubs out of the lawn. It is their natural diet.

They really are beautiful with their shiny coats and all. I wonder what they'd feel like but I'm sure as heck not gunna pet one to find out lol

When I sold exotics I had the opportunity to handle several of them, they are very similar to ferrets in most all respects just larger...

And even with their scent glands removed they still have a musky skunk smell to them that requires frequent baths to keep in check...

This is where my broody decided to set up camp. It had been the most coveted nesting boxes of them all and it still is from the looks of this!! I moved the crate away and there were FIVE hens in there all trying to lay an egg! #bettergetabiggerboat

Skunks:
Our poor dog got skunked 3x in 2015. The 1st & 2nd were actual encounters. (The baking soda, hydrpgen peroxide mixture done repeatedly helps but doesn't get it all.) He must have enjoyed the smell because he rolled in skunk poop a few days later & got red eyes. We used saline spray several times per day to give him some relief. It smelled like skunk every time we rinsed his eyes. We called him "stink eye."

When I was a kid, a girl at school had a pet skunk. Later, I had ferrets & yes they smell. Mine had the glands removed. Although not unbearable, I preferred to keep them in the basement rec. room rather than on the main level. The ferrets were a lot of fun, highly entertaining, extremely mischievous, & snugly (once they were tired out). I enjoyed owning exotic pets, but I never considered a skunk. The ferrets were enough stink. I had one male & then "babysat" a female for someone. After a month (& multiple excuses) I realized that I owned a second ferret.
