Illinois...

set 61 chicken eggs so far this year... 23 were shipped eggs (1 hatched)
Have 13 chicks... talk about a dismal hatch rate... only 1 of the 16 eggs broodies sat on from the beginning hatched... and that one was late and I finished it in the incubator.
Your hatch rate is at 21% ,,,, which should be in reverse,,, non hatch value.
What do you suspect the problem was with the shipped eggs??? Infertile, or shaken in transport?
Same question for those from your hens.

My serama hatched! And she has feets! Lol. Although seriously, 1 toe is turned upward. May need a prosthetic made. I slipped a washcloth under that I had forgotten to do at lockdown. Will get pictures of my little fuzz butt tomorrow. Hopefully some spitzies will decide to join.

This may help,,, @homeschoolin momma

Good thing I have too many turkey poults or I would starve over winter LOL

If you end up with too many poults please keep me in mind.

Sounds like my hatch rates so far this year and none have been shipped.

@cavemanrich Thanks! I'll have to try this! It's one toe is curled upward, but it should do the same thing I would think.

Don't forget the crutch as seen in the illustration. LOL

The peeping just woke me up for a middle of the night incubator check. The 7th (last) lav orp just hatched. 7/15 = 47%. They hatched on time & all have feets. The low hatch in this case was shipped eggs.

Xansie (experienced broody) has a small handful of chicks under her for the night to switch her to the mothering phase. More will be added tomorrow. Hopefully, all the chicks can be split up between the 3 bantam broodies.

the shipped eggs were fertile except for 1 of each batch. issues were bad air cells and my incubator lays the eggs down. I put them in cut up egg cartons and hand turned. I kept all non clear eggs in until 5 days late. Just in case.

My chicken eggs were fertility issues at first, on 16% layer.
Then One pen seemed to be having more late quitters than the other on 20% chick starter feed.

Broodies are breaking eggs and ruining the whole batch. Had this last year too.
Also the weather was not helping

The first 12 shipped all but 2 had bad air cells. The 2 made it to lockdown but never pipped.
I had 12 turkey and 4 of my eggs from one of my breeding pens being fed layer feed. I took the turkey eggs out at lockdown and gave them to 2 different hens.. 8/12 hatched. 2 of my chicken eggs were not fertile and the other 2 hatched. One chicken hatched may 3rd and the other 4 days late with the next shipped eggs.
The 2nd shipped eggs only 3 had good air cells and only 1 hatched. Another pipped and partially zipped. rest were early quitters

the next batch of incy eggs were out of 2 breeding pens, being fed chick feed .. lost power at beginning of lockdown for 3 hrs
Hatched may 31
pen b 8 set 6 fertile 3 hatched... put under broody hen
pen b skinny eggs I wanted to see if they would hatch.. stayed in incy
2 set 2 fert 1 hatched, but died at 5 days due to navels blow out... got my answer. don't set these eggs.

pen a 8 set 7 fertile 6 hatched .. stayed in incy during power outage.. after hatch put under a broody hen.. who was due at same time. Most of her eggs had egg on them,
put her eggs that looked ok in incy.. one hatched June 3rd, thinking this may have been an added egg..

June 6th took that chick and put under another broody hen who is my most successful broody who was in the most successful brooder box. .. who had 10 fertile eggs from a 3rd pen, none hatched .. 6 tried but didn't make it out. Remainder eggs were a mess and none look to be alive. Nasty nest. Supposed to hatch June 5th

now everyone is getting turkey feed, since there are poults in most pens. I will see how they hatch... just waiting on a broody.. although mama turkey seems to be going broody.. she may get chicks instead of poults.

It's feet looked funny because.....it's got silkie feet!

Silkie feet are still feet!

Congrats on hatching Jasper & Phee's egg, and we hope to see some Spitzie chick pics soon!

One laced orp died after pipping, the other is out but not stable. Trying to get Xansie to adopt some chicks. (She's OK when they're under her.... but attacks when she sees them.) MaiMai is still sitting on Jewel's eggs. Perhaps I'll put them in the incubator & start giving her chicks.

My big project of the day was moving the bantam coop outside (out of our screened patio). It should have taken an hour but add a repair or two & a deep cleaning and it took a good chunk of my day.
