Illinois...

My micro chicken died. She didnt seem right last night so she sleep in the inky with a spitzie friend. She chirped for hours. She was still chirping, trying to get under the spitzie like she wasnt warm enough. Put her bck this morning with the others and she just kept chirping. Went to check on her this evening and found her under the brooder dead. Been a bummer two days.:hit
:hugs
A very rough week for you.

I heard a hubbub and seen a bunch of poults looking through the shade cloth into another coop. ... between the cloth and a nest box. I was thinking of a chipmunk or similar. I found this
found another brown poult on walkabout. This one was running after a chicken broody yesterday. She didn't want it any more than she had wanted it's sibling. A couple hours later the turkey was off the nest. There was one brown almost hatched and 2 eggs were zipping. I went in and fired up the incubator and when I came back the one had finished hatching, She then came back. This morning a white was peeking out under her tail so I grabbed it before it went on a walkabout.
I am surprize on all the browns from her, at least 3 of 8 eggs. These are all her eggs and her and the dad were both white poults. Sweetgrass are supposed to breed true while calico don't, so I guess they are calico.... hard for me to tell them apart. R2elk said they were calico and people on FB turkey genetic page said sweetgrass.
The other 4 hatches put together, there are 5 browns and 19 white ( I think that's all the whites LOL)

eta another white poult was on walkabout. so 2 of each in the house

eta some more : The other hens older poults like to snuggle with her and I think they run the itty bittys out. ... Thought about it while it was raining ... it supposed to rain on and off until morning and the temp is dropping from 72 to 49f .. it's 62 now... so I went out and grabbed 3 more from under her. She has one egg left. 7 in the house

To cheer up everybody's day, here is some pics of our ducklings. An garbage can lid has made a nice shallow pond for them. Their chick roommate doesn't care for it much, but doesn't seem to mind it either. They are growing well. I have to be carefull about the temp. Its hot during the day and cool at night. I was running a 45 watt infared heat lamp to boost the temp just a bit. They didnt seem to sit under it much and then the bulb blew out. I am going to get a new one to be safe, but they really seem to be doing well.

@Molpet, this is tge chick we hatched from your eggs. She is doing well and is friendly to her duckling roommates. Any idea of her breed? I recall we'r had some cornish cross and something else I think. There wad some confusion about which egg she hatched from.

After having to give up a few chicks and a swap, I finally got my two female chickens.
Thank you @Faraday40 for your help and understanding. You are such a good person to deal with and so informative to talk too.
Oh, and my son wanted me to tell you thanks again for the egg. He ate it that night or next day, cant remember and loved it.
So, here are the final two new family members.
Rachel and Phoebe.
Rachel is the Lavender Eng. Orp and Phoebe a Silver Laced Eng. Orp.

well she was off the nest again and the egg was cold, pipped and lots of shell missing like she tried to help or stepped on it. I put it in the incubator incase it was still alive. But i think that white one is done for... might be why she left the nest, except she left yesterday while they were hatching.. but it was warm and humid in the coop yesterday.

@homeschoolin momma
Just wondering if your missing ones returned:idunno
Just so you do not loose all hope, here is an experience I had.
Got this one chicken and when I first brought her home,,,,, she flew into trees, and then on further. I was not able to catch her. 3 or 4 days later neighbor told me he spotted a chicken running around in his yard. One day later I spotted her in another location away from my home. I tracked her down and captured her.:thumbsup
Same chicken some years later went MIA in April when I had the garage open. Reappeared 2 weeks later, and stayed. Have no IDEA where she went. That was her last escape. She lived about 8 years+..
She was named Phantom, but I gave her that name originally because her face reminded me of the "Phantom of the Opera"
