Illinois...

I've almost collected 10 of Pippins eggs, so I'm about to have another go too. I'm wondering if I should set more spitz eggs.....
Have you sold any spitzes? Are you waiting to grow them a bit to pick out new breeders?

I have an idea..... hatch some lav orp BBs!!!!

I read on one of the threads about your incubator model. A solution peeps used was using the Non Slip Shelf Liner material to achieve the fall thru the grates foot issue. It is soft, spongy, and perforated to allow air flow.
BTW,,, I do like this inki. If I was incubating eggs, I think it would be my choice. Like the viewing it provides. :thumbsup
The shelf liner works great. I've used that. However, my incubator has 1/4 mesh in the bottom and they have no issues on that either.

The quail has arrived!

After it hatched I put a couple pieces of the shelf liner in the incubator. (The little quail feet can definitely fall through the flooring.) It's cut to fit my other incubator, so hopefully the quail won't get stuck under any of the folds. It's only going to be in there for a little while to dry off.

Then I'll start my next hatch!!!
What a beauty! So sorry it's a loner though. I wish the other eggs would have been fertile.

Also, I'm not sure yet, but I'm guessing that's a jumbo brown x silver based on the coloring so far. Post a pic when the chick fluffs up and I'll be able to give you a better answer.

I havent put any up. I want to pick my new breeders first, which means waiting for them to mature.....🙄

I'm hesitant to hatch any orps right now with blackbeard still in the flock. I love him, but that TAIL....jeepers! It's all I see when I look at him. And since he is Alpha, you know most offspring will be his.

Then hatch a few lav orps to sell. Almost everyone on my waiting list wants a lav and a blue. They're always the 1st colors that sell out. (Even faster than the SLOs!) Maybe don't set a lot, but I'm sure lavs will sell.

You may also want to get a black/lav split male for the future - unless you want one of mine. Over the years I've been selecting more English body type and adding it to Mr Dummy's line.

Mr. Potential has a decent tail. Of course when I find a better roo, I may rehome him. (Although I really like how the 2 roosters get along, so I'm not going rush it.)

My Java hen went hard broody the last couple of days. previously she would just be crabby and then get off the nest, now she's really sticking to it. I think I'm going to put my three cochin eggs under her tonight and let her take over from the incubator.
If you're nervous, you could try giving her one now and add the rest in a day or 2.
