Quite the day for us. 12 year marraige anniversary. Not much to do so we just went for a drive out to Kingston IL. We dropped DstepD off at wall camp many years ago and just wanted to see the woods again. On the way out saw what we thought to be chicken of the woods mushroom. Once we finally got there it was only yellow oyster mushroom.

On the way tracking through the woods I almost stepped on Bambi

I never even saw it. DD was behind me and saw it. I nearly stepped on the poor thing and didn't see it. I hope its momma returns tonight

Breed & age?

Today was pretty hot, so sometimes birds (especially light feathered ones) may flush & give a false hint of cockerel.

Good point about the heat causing flush, it really is a little too early to tell yet perhaps. Bantam Cochin, 26 days.

Took lots of research to convince myself the moms always leave fawns alone and she didn't abandon it. I seriously considered taking it home

Here's Lonely Only. SHE will be 2 weeks old tomorrow. Still a very tiny thing. Silkied feathering. She prefers her quail siblings..... but they're now also bigger than she is.

I knew you'd pick up on that!

Technically I do not know gender, but I'm not seeing any early male traits so far.

Because she's not being raised by a broody hen, I may have to slip her under Xansie (who's already broody again) when she hatches chicks. That way she'll have a mama hen to fight her battles of integration. (I doubt the little serama would want to spend her whole life with quail. LOL)
