Illinois...

Yes I am going to screw to a shelf in the garage so the rest of the chickens dont see and get stressed out. Though I doubt they'll care anyway.
I've been looking forward to and dreading this coming Saturday. Will be nice to see the project finished.
So far everything has gone great, surprisingly. Lost 1 as a chick and none since. I probably have a few 9 pounders running around. I cant wait to give numbers.
Put up some plastic on wall for blood splatter clean up

I offer my girls, Clean Water, Herbal Essence Shampoos, Martha Stewart Collection Towels. and this is what they choose :old :idunno

Left to right. Sushi, Japanese bantam, my Christmas gift chicken from neighbor. Mary Jane my RIR, I think she is pushing 9 years now. My oldest hen. White Polish , Krissy, 4 years. and Savanna 1 year old Serama from Faraday. Upper left corner in grass, already finished bathing is Pebbles, my OEGH. she and her twin sister are 5 years old. My other 3 chickens are grazing in the grass out of picture capture.

Aghh!! I'm out of town yesterday and today and my sons are taking care of the chickens. One of them told me last night that my Leghorn laid an egg from the roost at night and it cracked all over. I asked if he was sure it was an egg and not white poop. He said yes and there was shell. She had already laid yesterday morning so this would be only about 10 hours later. I'm not there to check on her until tonight. Is this crazy? She's only been laying for 3 weeks but she's a consistent morning layer almost every day (6-7 a week) always in the box in the morning. What gives?

First thought us do we have a new layer joining the leghorn? They can often drop the first few in some pretty unusual places.

Second thought is if it is the leghorn and shes only been laying for 3 weeks, her system still may be regulating and yes, she could drop a second egg. Maybe not the same size, but I believe it can happen. I wouldnt worry about it too much, im sure your boys are doing a great job and the ladies will get the kinks out of their systems.

It could be someone else but I only have one white egg layer. Though I still haven't solved the speckled egg mystery so maybe? Hopefully it's just her system getting sorted. She probably wasn't expecting an egg then either. 😂 I'll be interested to see if she lays again this morning.

Can we shoot hawks? 1 is terrorising the birds today. Is a beautiful bird. Poor birds are at their last day anyway
Cant shoot them , but my understanding that using fireworks to scare them is not illegal.. I read that on the pigeon thread and that person lives on the east coast, R I or somewhere in area.
Of course in Illinois fireworks are ILLEGAL, so its like a Catch 22 :idunno
