Illinois...

Has anyone seen squirrels without fur on tail? It looks and runs across the ground and jumps in trees just like a squirrel, so I'm pretty sure it's a squirrel. .....But that rat tail is freaking me out! Unlike the rabbits that we may trip over, the squirrels do not let people get as close.
Does it look like @Molpet Profile pic? I thought I saw a baby one of those run across the road last week.

Body not that thin. I saw it around 11am today. It ran like a squirrel, then climbed up a tree, across a branch and jumped to the next tree. Saw it in afternoon the other day. Chickens don't seem to care. (My flock goes crazy regularly when the pair of mallards visit the neighbors pool. )

I researched that squirrels can get skin fungal infections and mites. Either could cause loss of fur. Just hope nothing can get transmitted to my chickens from the rodent.

My profile pic is a #@!! weasel.

I have seen scruffy squirrels. Some times half a tail. Could be fighting or mange. I worry about the dogs and cats more than chickens. Most things are not both mammals and birds.

Forgot to post my silly silkies. They are very much in that awkward stage
I have no idea why their sizes are so different. Hatched March 31.

The runt
Still has a flat comb. Definitely a slower growth rate.

Comb is also flat - and narrow
This one kept cocking her head in

I'm cleaning the garage and have a few things to get rid of. First up is two nipple waters, One says cup-a-water but the cups never work so I converted it to a nipple style. The other is a large bucket I converted with four nipples. It has the nice screw off top.
It's personal preference, I just prefer fount style.
Both of these I did use last year. I have well water so they do have a bit of calcium that can be scrubbed out.
