Fireworks are illegal here in the communist state of Illinois! You should have 911 on super speed dial call next year! They could burn your animals or barn and a case can at least be made for torturing confined animals.

They are but everyone I know just goes over to Missouri and buys fireworks and drives back over here.
They shoot fireworks off at the Lake and they don't have any trouble even Police Officers live out there by the lake!

But shooting fireworks at any animals is torture.

I come from a FOP family. The police HAVE to enforce the law when specifically asked to by a citizen. They may choose to ignore infractions at their own discretion at any time EXCEPT when specifically requested by a citizen. I would say the best thing to report is dangerous fireworks and possibly gunfire being aimed at her livestock and imminent fear of a barn or pasture fire. That would work in my neck of the woods.

It was July 4 ... not that it is any less illegal that day. No reason to further animosities. I just stood by with hose at the ready. On the up side, they did have a very pretty display. As I find the firework remains in our pastures, I'm politely piling them up in the corner of their yard.

Though next time they call the State Police to ask us not to shoot our firearms (it made their city guests uncomfortable) , we won't be so generous. It isn't against the law for us to shoot fire arms ...

If you could put in something like: " By the way i loved the fireworks display you did but was afraid of the sparks ignighting my hay so I stayed outside with the hose. It worked well so next year can you give me a heads up when you are going to start doing them? I'll pull up a lawn chair & get the hose ready. Do you think you could point them straight up instead of over the horses?"

We've tried talking with these folks before, it only adds fuel to the fire. We are very non-confrontational people. They on the other hand act like the world owes them. The neighbors on the east & west of them had chain link fences. These folks would mow to within 4' of the fence (there is a 4' easement) instead of being neighborly & mowing right up to the fence.

A couple of years ago we put up a permanent fence on the north side of our hay field, primarily to keep them from mowing our hay down. We had a surveyor come out and place wooden stakes with flags to mark our property line. These folks pulled up all the stakes between them & us (we had gained another 20' feet into 'their' yard. They told us that we had to offset our fence by 4' and he expected us to mow on his side of the fence. When we told him we were zoned Ag and could put up the fence directly on the property line, he was very upset!! He called a guy from the county to come out when we put up our fence so he could prove us wrong.

He got a surprise! Not only did the county tell him we were correct, our neighbor was told that since he had a pool, he had to fence in HIS yard. Instead of putting up a fence offset by 4' from his property line, he just connected the back fencing to his neighbors. He still wants them to mow their 4' inside his fenced yard. If he is home, and sees them mowing, he will let out his dog. The dog is friendly enough but barks constantly at the mower and tries to bite it.

When these folks moved into their house, we took over a basket of eggs, honey, homemade dog biscuits and milk soaps. We never even got a Thank You.

In this case, it is best to let sleeping dogs lay.

Some People!
I'm from immigrants, my first language is not english.
My Mother, a great cook with a heavy italian accent back in the 60s, baked a cake and took it to new neighbors with me at her side. She rang the bell and said "welcome to the neighborhood" extending her paper plate wrapped in foil with a pretty cake on it. The man knocked the plate out of her hands into the grass saying "go back to your own country".

Sorry you must have the decendants of those people who have moved next to you. We found the best way is to avoid them. Never let them push you around either or they will think they have an upperhand ang go further. Once again, I am so truely sorry you have those people living next to you.

You were right - don't escalate with that type of people because they are more evil than you, a decent person, is willing to go.

Paradise, I bet your mother was morified having that cake on the ground....such a beautiful gesture that one had to ruin it for her. What was her reaction?
