Hello friends! We have a Golden Sex Link that started laying very LARGE duck eggs a few months ago. Didn't think much of it, just thought that was her new thing. Then we noticed that she would only give us this large beast 2 times a week. The other times they would be messy soft shelled eggs in the coop. We have since added a bowl of crushed oyster shells to the play area. Now we are noticing that she spends a lot of time on the nest. While the rest of the flock (3 others) are out foraging.

Ideas?

Thanks for reading...

Wow, that is a huge egg!
I would think it is lack of oyster shell, but why you get a huge egg twice a week, I have no idea.

Those large eggs look like they are double yolkers, which some of my younger hens laid in their first year. She could possibly become egg bound with such a large egg. Keep the oyster shell available to her, and some hens will eagerly take crushed egg shells fed back.
