i'm a chicken guy that wants to know about duck egg laying

leghorns, rir, sex-links, I think those are the most prolific.

Ducks are so underrated!

Some really are terrific layers. I know my swedish ducks put my buff orpingtons to shame, as far as consistency in production goes. Not to mention the duck eggs are huge compared to the chickens!!

Khaki Campbells can lay over 300 eggs a year. Welsh Harlequins and Indian Runners also lay lots of eggs.

I switched from chickens to ducks because my chickens laid so few eggs compared to the ducks.

I hear that it depends on the breed #1, and #2 I also hear that they are better for baking than cooking straight. I haven't had the chance to find this out on my own, but maybe this helps.

To echo other's help here, my three black Cayugas began laying a week or two ago and are now averaging 2- 3 eggs a day.

I like duck eggs for cooking & for baking. They cook up "stiffer" than chicken eggs, but I like that. Chicken eggs seem runny to me now. If you like them softer, you can mix in a little milk while cooking. As far as taste--you probably wouldn't know the difference if I gave you scrambled duck eggs & didn't tell you they weren't chicken eggs.

And yes, my Indian Runners are marvelous layers. Crummy setters, but great layers. Every day in summer, and most of the winter too.

I have a runner, a buff khaki mix and 3 Welsh Harlequins. I also used to have a khaki hen and a buff hen (my mutt's mom).

The buff would give me an egg every other day or so. Sometimes 2 days in a row. The khaki was laying about 5 eggs a week. The runner is 6-7. Chrissy is an egg laying MACHINE!

The eggs are the size of a jumbo chicken egg.

I am one of those people that can break out in hives from eating chicken eggs, but don't seem to have trouble with duck eggs.
