(1) Are you new to ducks / when did you first get ducks?
So because of the quarantine we decided to get ducks. We got 3 and we're contemplating getting chickens too. These 3 ducklings are already a lot of work, so I'm not sure if I want more responsibility.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I'm not positive. They were from Tractor Supply, mixed breed and unsexed so it's hard to tell. But I think I have 2 Pekin and maybe a Khaki Campbell. I was hoping my dark one was a Cayuga bc they're so pretty but I don't think it is after doing more research. My pekins sometimes look like they might be White & Fawn Runners but I have really no idea.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard ducks?
I was thinking they'd be more like pets w benefits lol (eggs) but I'm starting to see the pet aspect is not as realistic. They will let us pet them and then 2 min later they freak out and run away.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I am trying to learn to paint w acrylics. That's about it. I love watching TV shows. Very boring.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm a stay at home mom to an 8 year old son and a 4 year old daughter and a wonderful husband. He's the one that really wants chickens but I figure I'm going to end up being the one to do most of the caring for and cleaning up after so I'm more hesitant. We don't have any other pets....oh wait! Yes, we do! We have a pet betta fish. Lol I've never really had pets growing up so this is a big adventure for me. I'm nervous that I won't be able to handle it long term. But hopefully with ya'lls help, I'll do it right.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I googled all my duck questions and kept finding good answers here
