I'm a first timer...Help, I killed the baby's?

:welcome
Don’t beat yourself up - not even a little. This chicken keeping thing has a steep learning curve sometimes, and we’ve all been there. Don’t give up. Learn from it and move on. Maybe the next time keep hen and chicks on lower level so if they do get out of the nest they can find their way back in. I know how discouraging it can be (I lost most of my flock last year to predators), but hang in there.

It’s not your fault. I’m finding letting a broody raise chicks is in unpredictable especially if they are young and inexperienced. I’ve had 4 different broody hatch the last few months. 1st one did great I moved her to a dog kennel in the coop she stayed there with the chicks for the first 2 weeks brought them out with the flock during day then in evening she would bring them to dog kennel to sleep. 2nd wanted nothing to do with being moved every time I put her and chick in there she paced and ignored her chirping chicks till I let her out. She has lost 2 chicks one got her feathers tangled around its neck and the other I found this morning I think it got trampled in the night because she is sleeping in the flock. My 3 rd pushed her chicks out from under her when they hatched in the middle of the night, I found them in the morning. My 4 th is doing well so far, but broody number 3 now has decided she wants chicks and keeps trying to steal them and the chicks seem confused when 2 different mamas are calling them. I have hatched as many chicks in my incubator as the broodys have I have lost none. Things just happen. :hugs

We'll, we have free roaming chickens on our ranch. 3 hens: Thelma, Luisa, Raven (she's old One) and Guapo, a young Rooster. Yes, I've become quite attached to all of them. It was Thelma's first time w/baby's, the first of the 3 hens too. Thelma is quite domesticated and extremely smart. We've been building a large coop for all four of them: it's a work in progress. I fixed up an old temp/coop for Thelma and the chicks (when it was time).
Thelma's eggs hatched, I couldn't get to her baby's fast enough and a red tail hawk got one! I made it in time to grab the two chicks+Thelma, put them safely in temp/coop. The old coop is two story. A few day's ago, went to feed them usual routine, one of the chicks fell out? I didn't see the little guy till it was too late. Tried to nurse him back to health and he died. Now, again I go to feed Thelma one chick left. I noticed the baby looked hurt/pecked? I opened the door to feed them, I kept my eye on the little guy.
Thelma jumped out of the cage? I ran to get her, left the door wide open. Came back to find the little guy below the cage, he was dead. I just buried the little guy, tears running down my face like a geyser. I remembered this site so here I am: confessing my sins. I'm so ashamed of myself. Feel like crap big time.
OMG! How could I be so dumb? I just killed the last one? Feel like the neglecting mom, leading her kids to a death. I feel so awful! Any advice? I don't think I want to raise any more chickens, (even after the new coop is finished) :(,.
Sincerely, the little chicken killer...

First I want to say it is not your fault we are human second I am glad you came here
Please do not be so hard on yourself I lot 5 to a them getting too cold when the heating pad quit a month ago we have all had these HUMAN errors

Me again. I just had to move my broody hen out of the big coop into one on the floor and as I moved her eggs I dropped one! So your not the only one who makes mistakes! Like I said we all do it! Xxxxx
