Hello and Welcome To BYC! How kind of you to rescue the girls. You might want to post in the Coop/Run design forum for suggestions about setting up for your hens https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/9/coop-run-design-construction-maintenance Many people either bury wire down on the edge of the coop a foot or two, or lay it out on the ground and cover it with rocks etc to discourage digging predators.
