I'm a real goose lady now. I got attacked!

I'm sorry you got attacked but this thread is cracking me up. Especially the part about naming your goose Mate so you could say "G'day, Mate!"

That sounds like something I would do.

I have only the male left, but it is a brown african goose and he is the most gentle thing....I want some more next year, and I am thinking Tolouse, or Emdens....but I don't want them to bite me. Especially after reading your comments on here, but I have to admit i have really had a good laugh.

That's no kidding!

If you do not shout, clutch your bitten part, howl curse words and wonder if you are going to pass out from the pain, ya ain't been properly bitten by a goose

You guys are funny. I was got a bit on the back which did not hurt nearly as bad as the elbow of the wing pounding on me. You know how they do it. LOL
My full grown baby gosling (i know) eats out of my hand and she bites me by accident sometimes and that does hurt when she mistakes my hands for food and that is not even a full attack. Attack mode is no joke! I have a very aggressive goose that I have to use a fishing net to move her. All the others will tolerate being picked up but the trick is to grab the neck first.

My female Lavender likes to kiss me on the lips. It is so sweet, and she is mostly gentle, as if she knows I am hopelessly bald and tender. But every now and then I end up with a little bit of a fat lip.

I used to have a gander named Pinhead, who was hand raised/hand fed. He was the Goose Boss, and the one that used to attack me regularly. He would still eat out of my hand, but between bites of food he would bite my hand just to remind me of my place, I guess

It was not accidental. I had to manhandle him by grabbing his neck, too.

I got "baptised by goose fire" last year when I had to move a goose and her nest...something was stealing the eggs from under her and I had to move her to secure her...it did not go well for either one of us...I have five ganders who look at me kind of funny and I think when it is laying time for the gals/breeding time for the boys, there may be some issues...Barney, the eldest and boss gander, made threatening gestures at me last year when his girls were laying but I nipped that in the bud right away...caught him by the neck, picked him up and carried him around like a football for a good half hour...he was so embarassed! The eleven girls and young boys were following us around and I know they were laughing at him...when I set him back down they all gathered around and talked about what happened for a while, then wandered off to take care of goose activities...Barney hissed at me once in a while after that, but from a very safe distance...smart fellow...I love them all and they don't know how lucky they are that goose is not a food item around here...they are on the entertainment committee...

Three new geese in the yard for the past 2 or 3 weeks and I am hoping one will be an attack goose...it makes for hilarious videos! One is brazen enough to lower his head and threatened my 3 yr grandson but no attacks yet!! I have Toulouse and they are very gentle

Out of my 5 adults only 2 are "attack geese" but I didn't raise them. The ones I raised are sweet as sugar.

No kidding just about a day after I started this thread I just about got attacked by the same gander and the goose mama. I was trying to help their other baby, Miracle get out of the big water tub - she was having problems getting out. I had to put a milk crate and a cinderblock in there so the birds can have something to step on to get out when the water level gets low.

My first attack was a couple months ago when they were still breeding. I had purchased 2 goslings and had them in a huge walk in cage with some ducklings to calm them down, they were parent raised and about 4 wks old. I left the door open for a second and one escaped and ran after my sebbies wanting to join them. I thought oh boy he's going to get on the pond and I wont be able to get him back. So I went after him with a net. WRONG MOVE ON MY PART LOL

Ever have a ticked off gander attack your adams apple? he jumped up on me with both feet on my chest and snatched my neck and pulled as hard as he could on the way back down and came up for round 2. That was that. I ran like a big sissy LOL got my doberman and had her herd them away from the gosling. You want to talk about a bruise? It was the size of an orange the next morning. Try to explain that to people in town then they ask "what happened to your neck" LOL

Needless to say when ever I have to do anything with my geese I know they are not going to like, my dobe is at my side to herd them away. LESSON LEARNED

I also have a Doberman "goose herder and catcher!" My red female will catch and hold if I need her...I still have a visual stuck in my brain of her catching Barney the day he got out and I just could not convince him to go where he needed to go...I finally called my "catch dog" and told her to get Barney...she grabbed him by the neck and froze...he was squawking and flapping the snot out of her with his wings and hopping...she held and cracked one eye at me as if to say, "hurry the heck up, he is killing me!" Good dog...humiliated gander...
