I'm about ready to gnaw my own arm off

With a couple of my pregnacies I had this awful itch that would not go away with anything. I finally went to the emergency room, cuz my Ob refused to give me anything prescription wise!

They gave me prednisone, and let me tell you, it worked like magic. I was like you, I wanted to gnaw my arms off as well. I feel for you. If nothing else works, see what your doctor says.

Try Calendula ... it's a homeopathic ointment that really works on itches. My sister went through a lot of meds etc from her doctor for itches on her arms that wouldn't quit. She was nearly itching herself bloody.

One weekend they came to visit and I gave her a tube ... it worked immediately.

I did that too when I was pregnant and gained 35 lbs in my last month!

My arms used to break out whenever they were exposed to he sun and I'm pretty dark skinned. After trying every available lotion and seeing a dermatologist(didn't help), someone told me the chemicals on my skin might be reactiong to the sun. I switched to Ivory soap and then Daily Clarifying shampoo. It cleared up completely. I still break out a little when I visit the kids in St. Louis. I think that's the air pollution.

Oh I am so sorry you have this. I can only imagine how itchy it is. My 9mth old has terrible exzema and has a prescription called derma smooth to help. I have seen him obsessively scratching in his sleep. He is also very fair with blonde hair and blue eyes....

I hope you feel better soon!

It is mostly found in gourmet or custom soaps. It is a 'weed' most often associated with relieving the itch from poison ivy.

I harvested a batch of jewelweed last summer and made a batch of soap with it and it really works to take the itch out of just about anything on your skin.

I have a weird allergy and sometimes for no apparent reason my hands flame up in hives under the skin and I want to peel my skin back scratching so hard. Using the jewelweed the itch is gone in under 5 minutes.

Making the soap with rich oils like olive oil, grape oils, shea butter and mango butter really ups the moisturizer in the soap and it feeds your skin.

My husband has excema that flairs up every now and then in the weirdest places (on the bridge of his nose next to his eyes where his sunglasses rest is one)... the only thing that helps him is a prescription based cortizone... I'll ask him tonight to see what it's called.

Good luck and try not to scratch.

Have any of you tried "Bag Balm"? It is for keeping the udders of milk cattle smooth during the winter months. (You wash the udder before and after milking) and when the cattle go back out of the barn, the udder gets chapped from the wind and cold. I have used it for years for dry, itchy skin. It is really full of LANOLIN and keeps the tissues moisturized very well. You can get it at any feed store, or farm supply store. I think that TSC even carries it. It is in a small green metal can about 2 1/2" square and has a picture of a cow on the lid. Try it, it may work for you. (Plus, it doesn't smell bad like some things that you could use either!)
