It all started with 3, supposedly Golden Buff hatchery chicks from the local nursery.

Then I added 2 Black Copper Marans from a farm in the area.

Then we discovered one of our Golden Buffs was actually a Cornish Cross Meat Hen.

So we had to get a Welsummer to replace the Cornish, because we will slaughter her in a week or two.

Then today, I went back to get another Welsummer, and ended up bringing home a Rhode Island Red, Americauna, and a Salmon Faverolle, because, well....why not!?

Oh, did I mention I have 3 Icelandic chicks on order with a local breeder and they should be ready for pick up Aug 1st.

That will put me at 12....well 11 when you factor in the meat hen who will be moving to the table soon.

I suppose I should stop now huh?

Ruby (Rhode Island Red),Chocolate Chip (Salmon Faverolle), and Snow White (Ameracauna)

You can see our Cornish here - 8wks and 8lbs

Trouble and more trouble...trying to get to my grapes....

Why stop?

We started with 10 hens and a rooster and now have over 150.

In my opinion, only stop if you can't take care of them or if you live in a neighborhood where they frown upon chicken hoarding.

Hahaha exactly right!!! Chicken hoarding, LOVE it. 150? A bit much for me. We started with a small flock of 8 girls, now have 24(I think) with a few roos and a few meaties in the mix

Wow...I can't imagine having 150 chickens. They must be so entertaining to watch! :)

I was only going to get 6 chickens. After weeks of adding more and giving some away, I am now at 11 chicken and 2 (the 3rd got killed by a predator on Monday) ducks. So...I'm more than double my original amount. I have no plans to get any more chickens, but totally understand adding more and more when you first start. :)

They are very entertaining to watch...and even though it's hard to name them all, we've managed to name most of the roosters at least. We have one New Hampshire rooster that is huge and we call him Clifford, the big red chicken. It's easier to come up with names when you have kids.

LOVE the name! Our roos are Albert and Oscar (and the two little ones we're pretty sure are male are Pedro and Ferdinand).
