I'm afraid it's going to be a long winter

I say bring winter on.....I do not like summer. Winter except for feeding the cows and calving is much less busy for us. I don't even care that cold means I'll have to start carrying water to the pens instead of using the hose.

When you do see a wooly worm, would you let me know? I haven't seen one since I moved here. Not sure there are any.
I still have a few hummingbirds at my feeders.

I saw totally black wooly bears crossing the road last week. They aren't usually here until later in Sept, I thought... But they were definitely wooly bears! And the all black part kinda bugged me!

my husband and i were saying this very same thing over the weekend..its cooled off here already, leaves are coming off the trees and my cats are getting their winter coats already and its not even september.
i love winter though! well, the first month or so anyways.

This will be the first year that we've had an inside coop for our chickens...actually this is the most chickens we've had, 17 of them with about 9 or 10 viable eggs in the bator. Prior years, I only had 6 or 7 laying hens at a time. Our indoor coop is large and split with two runs on either side of it. Electricity is available to keep the kids warm if it gets really cold so I feel really good about my kids this year. DH and I were discussing how we would keep the water from freezing. I might have to hang the water from the coop rafters.

Oh brrr! All this long winter talk is giving me a chill! Wait...that's just my iced down coke..

I sure will let you know! They seemed to have declined here but I still see a couple in the fall although i can never remember which stripe signifies the "hard" winter. Is it the more black it has on it, the harder the winter will be?

Yeah, of the thirteen segments on the typical wooly worm if the black bands are really black and wide the worse the winter. You should be seeing some soon when the weather cools.
They morph into some kind of tiger moth.

.....I'm so jealous, you have no idea....

What are we on day 65 of 100 degrees or over this summer? My county has recorded the worst drought EVER for this area.

Thanks for the info. gritsar! wegotchickens said they saw some totally black wooly bears....I think the title of your post may just be much more true than you imagined if you believe in nature's signs........

I trust mother nature's signs a whole lot more than those idiots they call weathermen on TV.

I'm with Tammy, summer can't end soon enough. She even got rain this week, and I didn't.

Yep, over 60 days of 100+ and the next week's forecast is all for days over 100. I am so sick of it. I envy all you folks who are experiencing cooler weather.
