I'm afraid my chickens will get murdered

Tonight is my first night with Chickens. I just put my 8 chickens to bed and I'm hoping nothing gets to them in the night. I'm paranoid I didn't do a good enough job building or securing the coop and I'll wake up to a massacre. I just checked on them again. Is this a normal fear?
Post pictures of your coop and we'll let you know if there is more work you could do to beef up security or if you can sleep like a baby.

I don't know if I would say it's normal.. I agree with the above poster, post pictures of your coop. I personally don't worry, I know my coop is secure, haven't had an intruder for years. One time long long ago a weasel squeezed through, patched the chicken wire and been fine since. It may be normal if you're new to chickens, and not confident with your coop's security.

I felt the same way for my chicks first night out. I don’t think I got much sleep, luckily I could see them sleeping from a window so I didn’t have to go outside all hours of the night (I still did a little). In fact, I still worry sometimes ( a lot) - but now I have a motion camera on it so I just look at that. I guess that makes me not normal?

Our first chicken was a cockerel, we got him because the neighbor kids found him trying to cross a highway and the Dad wanted to get rid of him. We were totally unprepared, so the poor guy roosted on our back porch for two nights, before my husband could build a coop. The cockerel did fine, even though we have raccoons, possums and God only knows what in the neighborhood these days.
My back door is glass and he would peck on the glass a few times a day to get me to come out and play, until we got him some hens.
I wouldn't worry, check your coop tomorrow and see if you need to reinforce anyplace.
Try to get a good night sleep, in case you do want to reinforce anything tomorrow. :frow

I felt the same way actually. My chicks were a transition from my house though where I knew they were safe. So putting them out into the big boy coop was scary for me. Even though the run has four locks and three motion cameras. Not to mention four more locks on the coop itself. My husband said I went a little crazy with the locks and wire but I read about the small holes animals can squeeze into. It scared me.
But posting pictures would help so people can better advise you and make you feel better.
I used the green plastic garden netting on my run, which raccoons can chew through, and someone on here told me to replace that. It’s winter here so I don’t have to worry much now but come spring time I’m building a new run with my new information. So the babies can stay safe. For me going overboard on the run and coop made me feel better about having them outside. But that’s just me. Maybe consider a motion camera though.

This is a picture of my coop. It's ugly. I had to build it in 4 days by myself with reclaimed material.
