I recently expanded my coop so it is now twice as big. So, of course, I want twice as many chickens.

I really really really want some silkies. And polish. And speckled sussex. And and and...

To get all the ones I want would be expensive. $100+ total. BUT I HAVE A PLAN! I'm selling about $10-$14 of eggs a week. Expenses are about $20 a month. Soooo....If I saved up I could get my beloved silkies right?!

Do it! I just got a bantam feather leg assortment yesterday and am so excited to finally have some silkies! I also have one polish pullet who is gorgeous. At least you've already expanded your coop. We still need to before these newbies go out. Oops! And I have another broody hen so trying to figure out if we can give her some eggs or not. We already have a lot of chickens- more than my husband probably wants

Sounds like "chicken math" has struck you in a big way. Very few BYC members are immune to it.)

Sounds awesome! I just bought 8 eggs, four chicks (week old bantams), and 15 day-old bantams. And my family said I had too many as it was!

I'm getting two silkies in a few days, and I plan on keeping the Buff (a color I've never had before).

I say, if you have room for them then you don't have too many, lol. Go for it (and then share pictures with us)

I like your thinking!!! :) Question on the silkies: I have the options of male, straight run, or female. I know silkies are hard to sex. Do you think it's worth the extra $8 to get females? Or do you think I have just as good a chance of getting females with the straight run? I'm willing to pay extra to get females, just wondering if it's worth it.

I got four straight run silkies and one that was said to be a male. The when that was suppose to be a male turned out to be a female and the two that I thought would be males also turned out to be females, and then the two that were suppose to be females turned into males.

It would be worth it to know early on.

Getting the straight run might mean you end up with all males...I'd pay an extra $8 to get females (sometimes males still show up but your odds are better).

I had to read that twice just to figure out what you ended up with...talk about mass confusion!
