Im at wits end again more I read more confused.....my life is consumed worrying about my flock

why wouldnt they get enough protein from all the worms etc they EAT??????? It had been raining lots so worms are really all over their digging areas. They were out in the rain lots( their choice) the other day feasting on worms on the surface of their big 1/2 Acre area. they have piles of leaves all along their fenceing areas... and they find plenty there. I even go out and turn over rocks etc for them, they love that... more sow bugs etc to eat
I was tempted to turn on bugzapper light for them to find dead bugs from overnight... during warm nights...
they loved it when I was giving them big old bugs caught on the porch screen door during the summer nights when porc light was on.
naw they are scratching their faces too....
they follow me around when I pull weeds etc....waiting to find grubs, worms
plus I give them some canned fish once or twice aweek...plus some just cracked raw peanuts late afternoon.Lately I bake the peanuts some first
who knows if occ they get a frog, mouse etc..... I cant see them unless I get close up.
The Dr on phone suggested supplemental vitamins etc... Told her already do that several times a week in their water
Gave them a Drench tonight...
thanks all

The vet that already saw any of your birds can give you a referral.

Worms and bugs are hosts for parasites, look it it up and you'll see.

If you really want to feed something that free of soy, look at adding some UltrKibble to their diet.

What advice????/You mean give them junk food big name feed......?? noway....Soy laden chemical laden junk, full of pesticides..... that's mostly what is suggested. Most advice is given about FEED... that is clearly not the problem..... It has to be a pest, mites or parasite or bacteria or fungus or something, mice droppings or something, puddles galore, Cause it started with one Hen and has spread....
Garlic and probiotics etc already doing. They free range.... Its raining outside. they prob got worms galore to eat......... they get plenty of protein from that and occ meal worms, occ canned salmon, and some peanuts too
also suggested to see an avian vet which is no where near here...non existence.....SO how can I find out what is wrong......????
Do you think I want to medicate them??? I dont even take an aspirin myself...
They are clearly having a problem.. there must be some at home testing kits to send to a lab....
All the county extension agent did
Your not listening to what everyone is saying and you have an excuse for any advice that is given. You have been dealing with problems since October, you over
medicated then, you gave them expired food and you think you have grain mites in the feed. And yet you still fed it to them, you yourself said you wished your organic feed had more protein. You don't like "big box brands" We get that, so what if it smelled "chemically". What does it hurt to feed them one 50 lb bag? It can't be any worse than the pharmacy of medications you have given them. If you don't like to even take an aspirin....why would you pump your birds with so many anti-biotics and wormers? They probably have a tolerance built up by now. Your over thinking things.....let the chickens be chickens. Take off all the booties, band-aids and salves ......let the wounds heal. Clean out the coop, feed them some big box feed, have plenty of waters with FRESH water and they won't drink the dirty water. They are just shedding quill feathers....mites wouldn't still be alive if you gave them all that stuff. Stop medicating them for a week. LET THEM HAVE A NORMAL LIFE FOR A WEEK. I'm not trying to sound mean, but you just not listening to anyone if frustrating.

I really don't understand this person..

have you seen any of these mites or fleas you keep blaming for what is really your bad management i took this problem to a breeder
and he told me if you lived in england you would have had a visit from the r s p b and if the birds where found to be as poorly as you
say you would have had had them taken away and a day in court i am sorry but this is all down to your neglect i have never heard such
a load of old pony get a grip on reality look after your stock or give them to some one who will you should be ashamed of yourself

Worms are not a sufficient source of protein. Chickens need vitamins and other proteins found in "junk brands" as you call them. Yes, there are organic and soy free feeds that may supply your demands. Here's what I say:

Stop medicating the chickens. Give them each a nice bath if you choose, checking for bumble foot, abnormalities, weight loss, discharge around eyes and nostrils, etc.. Then clean out their coop. I'm talking complete clean out. Throw away your old feed and find a new brand. Give them fresh water and clean all feeders/waterers. Give them some electrolytes and vitamin supplements if you must. Let nature take its course.

and I don't OVER MEDICATE. You call giving a wormer dose    and  a dose of TYlan for a period of time OVER MEDICATING   ??? and Corrid was prescribed by a vet?????? wow . I guess that comes from skimming thru posts....    whatever.
my chickens would eat those pellets?  duh..... unless they were starving and locked up.. maybe....

Chickens are geniuses when it comes to food. They know that if they eat the nice bits out of the mixed feed you're giving them and then wait a while, a fresh portion will be along before they get hungry enough to eat the bits they initially turned their beaks up at. Figure out how much of the food they're actually eating, and give that amount. For example, if they eat half of what's in the feeder, put out half as much as you usually do. Be careful not to add to the feed total by giving them extra treats. (My dad's a bugger for doing that. "Oh, the chickens aren't eating as much as normal, better give them a little extra wild bird seed.")

A bowl of pellets or homogenous mush isn't the most exciting thing in the world to look at, but it's the most efficient way of making sure all the feed ingredients get into the chicken. No point giving them a choice if you don't want them to choose.

I would like to point out to the other readers of this thread that while ladyearth has mentioned a lot of different things (fish zole, copper sulphate, etc.) the only non-food things she's stated to have fed the chickens are Corid, vitamins, Valbazen, and Tylan. She has also rubbed olive oil and ear mite cream on them.

I have been following this thread with much interest from Day 1.

While the chickens have been treated with a variety of both home and commercial medications, I see no mention of the coop having been ‘treated’.

Just a thought, but if this all stems from mite or lice, you are fighting a losing battle if the coop is not treated also.

Me? I would do something to get rid of the mice and give the coop a thorough clean and treatment.

Treat the chickens with a worming and a dusting and put them on layer pellets or lay mash with twice daily fresh water and stop everything else.

Just me, but we are well into the third week of multiple treatments etc and I believe it is time to take a deep breath, a step back and give the chickens chance to settle.

This thread might be three weeks old, but I think the OP has been treating one or more for maybe a year.
