Welcome back into BYC!!Hi All, I'm back after about a twelve year hiatus.I've missed my "chickie girls" and with the cost of eggs going through the roof I've decided it's time to get my coop up and running again. I couldn't figure out what my email address or usser name was "back then" so just started over as a newbie............sort of.
I'd forgotten how difficult it was to purchase just the chicks you want from MM because of their production dates. But I'm looking at a VERY small flock (I wouldn't really call it a flock) of about 4 to 6 birds. I had 24 last time I had layers so this will be a whole lot less work. It's just the little wife and me and I'm not planning on selling eggs like I did last time. (I was collecting about 14 cartons a week)
I'm looking at Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rock, Black Astralorp, Rhode Island Red and Sussex. Haven't decide how many of each because of their availability. So I'm definitely a brown egg person.
Luckily I've still got everything associated with chickens so won't have to go out and purchase any equipment except a starter pen. Since I'm planning on so few chicks this time I don't think I'll need anything too large.
Okay...........time to get back to studying the chick catalog!

Wow, 007Sean................................bet you have to watch your step at your place! That's a whole lot of poop to dodge!!!!!Howdy,Welcome back!
She grew up on a chicken farm...........so she's "been there-done that". Several hundred layers and tons of meat birds, so it was a business, not a love. I get that. Me, I loved my chickie girls and could reach down and pick any of them up I wanted. They were what I called "my profitable pets".Don't worry, she will fall in love with them.![]()
