I have not been here in a long while as I moved into a neighborhood with a home owners association. I now have sold that house and can keep chickens again. I just bought two little silkie chicks that are about a week old. How long do I need to keep them in the brooder before putting them outside in the coop? I have another 6 coming tomorrow.... I am so EGGCITED I will start getting eggs again... small eggs ... but still eggs.

It will depend on the weather and temps in your area?? Generally, the recommendation is that they start out at 95 degrees and you reduce it by 5 degrees a week. On the other hand if you have a sheltered, warm coop they could be put out sooner.

Thanks for the information. I live in AZ and our weather here during the day is in the 80's but gets down in the 50's at night.

Welcome back

Without a heat lamp in the coop you can put them out when they are about 6 weeks old and fully feathered.
