I have a 3 month old silkie cross. He can hardly crow yet. But today he put his wings down and ran towards his mom and tried to mate her. Is that normal for a 3 month old roo?

Yes, its perfectly normal. I've seen my roosters try to mate up and coming cockerals, tree stumps, rakes, pretty much anything that will hold still for 2 seconds
