I'm being wormed--update

24 hrs. after I'd taken the ivermectin, the itching that has plagued me for nearly two years stopped. All the sores started to heal and my skin feels positively ticklish. 4 days later my skin is smooth and barely scarred. I suspect that the mites were excreting something that was not only hindering my ability to heal but interfering with my nervous system. I can't believe the way my skin feels. I had forgotten what touch without itchiness feels like. Best of all, I no longer feel like I have mites crawling all over me.

Wow! Hooray for you and for your doc... I am so glad to hear that it worked.

Are the mites that cause scabies similar to the mites that cause mange in dogs?

AAAAAAHHHH!!!! I have a rescue dog that I am fostering right now that has scabies!!! He got a shot of ivermectin when I took him to the vet- and he (the vet) said nothing about us catching it... How worried should I be? This poor dog is an itchy mess... I am NOT going to be happy about forking over $30-40 bucks for a family of five to get treated plus office copay.

Hope yours stays gone!

eta: WHEW! I went to the CDC website and found out that dog mites cannot reproduce on a human host. They can burrow in and cause itching, but you wont become infested with them as they die in a day or so.

Glad you got relief, what a mess!
Menageriemama, I feel your pain! I work with Airedale rescue (and various others over the years) and the messes we find the poor critters in are just awful. Ain't the pharmaceutical options wonderful (sometimes). Hope your skin stays pretty and un-itchy kinnip.

EEEWWWW....I have had a rash on my legs for over a year! It's hardly noticable, but itches like the devil! I've had horses for about the same time! I'm call ing my doctor! Thank you!
