I'm confussed..& need help....Sick hen swollen belly, not egg bound

That's about where I stuck the needle in and got only 15ml of yellow fluid, then it got hard to pull so I took the needle out (couldn't find the screw on type up here) and tried in about 1 inch away and just got blood, so I stopped. I tried again a few days later and same thing just blood.
Someone here had said that since she is "overweight" that she could have more fat on her and I might need to stick the needle in deeper, which really scares me that I would puncture an organ or something.
She is walking around a lot more but when she stops her tail feathers go down and she sits on them. Other than that she seems pretty normal, I would put her in the coop but that one pesky hen won't leave her alone, just has to peck at her head

I'm still waiting for the vet to call me to see if he might treat her or at least tell me what else I can do for her.

I got a call back yesterday, and there is NO vet around that will treat her, I've called every one and only one told me to call a local feed store, the manager is known as the "chicken guru" and I did talk to him and he wasn't sure what was wrong with her.

A few days ago she was looking very thin, but eating like a pig. I did some research and decided to de worm her again, this time I used Safeguard, but they were in pellets (getting the liquid tomorrow) so it was only 5% medication not the 10% in the paste or liquid.
Today she is acting a lot more active, wanting out of her dog kennel, seems to be walking around a bit better, not with her tail feathers down and more alert

I did notice her butt is messy, with poop and a whitish stuff, not chunky but liquid like . So I will be giving her a bath soon and get her cleaned up, some research here sounded like vent gleet.

So I'm still trying to figure out what is going on with her. tomorrow will be 2 weeks she's been inside and it was about 2-3 days before that when I noticed she was not acting well. But today she seems like she is doing a bit better, since she's in my office I see her all the time and hubby says she looks like she is feeling better, he doesn't see her as much as I do so he said he see's more of a change in her than I do.

I'll keep doing research and try to see if I can get her better so she can go back out with her buddies (that will be fun

) pecking order changed again, she was top hen and now bottom hen thinks she's top hen.

If anyone has any help or suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it.

It seems to change between normal and mushy

it was green but has changed to brown and stayed brown with white almost liquidy stuff with it.

As I said in the "safeguard dosage" thread you had replied in she seems active and eating a lot, just stands in the corner of the dog kennel but when you walk by or go in to see her she walks over to you and she's not slow.

She got a very nice bath with the epsom salts and she seemed to really enjoy it.

she also smells a lot better (epsom salts had peppermint in it).

I got her the Safeguard in liquid form, do I wait til the 10 days or do I give her some now? I did give her some of the pellets Wednesday.

She looks a lot better today, walking around more with her tail feathers up, she hasn't done that for a while. She doesn't look like she has a swollen belly, I've taken a look at the other hens and she doesn't look any different from them now.

Is it possible that her problems were just from worms?

Sounds to me like you are doing a fabulous job with her. I've never had to worm my girls (and I don't believe it necessary to treat them if there's no problem) so I can't accurately give you information on how often/much to worm them. But I will say that if worms are the problem, then if one has them they all have a chance of having them, so in this case I would worm the rest once too. Very glad to hear of this improvement.

I never have wormed my hens before either, didn't know they needed it. A week ago I thought she wouldn't make it but tried to do what I could for her and it looks like it has definitely paid off.
She is walking now with her tail feathers up, not way up but not sitting on them anymore, I didn't know that worms could of done this much to them but one thing that always stood out to me in her not internally laying is her appetite, she never stopped wanting to eat, she seems to be wanting more food, sure loves the meal worms.
I have to clean out the coop before adding her back to the flock

Hope the others are happy to see her back.
