Im considering getting geese.....

Mine are housed with ducks and they get along fine.

I sold all of my Africans, Chinese and American Buffs many years ago because they were too aggressive. I dont like being chased, bitten or having the little kids that visit here chased either. That's how birds end up on the table at my house.

No mean birds allowed!

My Seb Ganders only get fiesty during breeding season when I approach their girl's nest but the rest of the year they are very pleasant. My Dewlaps are big, fat babies and too clumsy to chase anyone even if they wanted to. They are docile and friendly and I can take eggs right out from under them without so much as a hiss.

I lock EVERYTHING in at night because we have Bobcat, coyotes, fox, owls, coons, possums...you get the idea.

Thanks! My neighbor has everything but ducks and geese it seems, so thats where I hope to come in

Looks like at least now I have a few to pick from. Yay me!

I must admit, I'm very interested in getting geese one day myself. I find Canadian geese extremely entertaining and would love to have a domestic goose. I love the brown ones with white butts -- I think those are the Pilgrim geese.

Anyway, let me reveal just how naive I am about geese. Do geese lay eggs a lot of the time like chickens do, or do they only lay eggs in order to hatch goslings in the spring?

Also, do any of you eat goose eggs? If so, how do they compare in taste to chicken eggs?

Thanks for answering my "goose novice" questions!

I had a mixed flock of geese.. I think the africans were the loudest

Their warning cry is shrill to say the least.. very distinct from all the other geese..

If you want a friendly goose, I would recommend you get a very young one and handle it lot..

most people are not very willing to sell one of their full grown ones that is real friendly.. I sell my most unfriendly ones first....

I also lock mine up at night.. they prefer to sleep out in the snow, but I am not raising fox food..

All of my poultry run together. The geese, ducks, turkeys and sometimes the peafowl all graze together. There are occasionally tifs between the different groups, but for the most part, they all get along just fine. The goats also run with them.

We had geese 2 of them that we raised from babies ,if you don't have water for them to swim in don't get them ,Thay liked me ,but not my hd ,they tried to bit him every time he went near them . we gave ours away to a man that had a pond for them to swim in.

Im having to replace one of my pools in the spring, Im hoping to get one of the larger plastic kiddie pools with a slide

Thought that would be fun to watch. Of course, All my slides have ramps built for them, so getting in would not be a problem.
