Im devastated

The neighbors dogs killed my girls. I'm heartbroken and angry. My precious Isa brown Patty, my buff Orpington Sunshine, and my Wyandotte Ethel were killed while I came inside for a potty break. I was just with them! I came outside and saw one of the dogs standing above Ethel and it ran away when I yelled. The only one alive I could find here was Goose the rooster who is injured no doubt trying to protect them. I looked for the others the rest of the day until dark. Two came from across the road, and 2 came to the run door from somewhere. They're safely inside but I'm still missing 2. I'm praying they're alive and are hiding somewhere. I feel so guilty for leaving them for a few minutes.
many hugs to you. You could have not foreseen that the dog would come by.

So sorry for your losses, it's awful. And I'm glad that your other birds are okay.
I would report this to your Animal Control office, and the dog's owner is responsible for damages.
Those dogs will return, unless their owner does a better job keeping them home. Find out what your legal options are here, and consider fencing, especially electric fencing. The electrified poultry netting is easy to set up and works well. baited electric wire fencing does well too. and takes longer to install.
Many of us have had predator event when our birds are outside, and we then improve security if possible.

It seems like there is a rash of dogs-killing-chickens posts lately.

I just said that to my wife when I clicked on this thread.

As far as responsible dog owners go, it cost me several thousand dollars, not to become a responsible dog owner, but because my neighborhood was filled with irresponsible owners.

@Chookmama72 Although it is horrible what happened, it sounds like it could have been much worse. I'm glad it wasn't, but I'm sorry for the loss you did suffer.

Absolutely. I lost 3 and may lose my roo, but my other girls came home and are safe and enjoying dust baths as we speak.
