When I move the pullets out of the nest boxes to put them onto the roosts they inevitably panic and flap (though some are learning to step up onto my wrist like a parrot).

But when I pick up Ramses he's perfectly calm and untroubled, even allowing me to hold him for a few awkward attempts at cockerel selfies.

He's 20 weeks and has been mating with apparently willing girls for a couple weeks already -- and getting on reasonably well with Ludwig, the senior cockerel so far.

I don't make pets out of any of my chickens and am particularly dubious about a pet cockerel getting too familiar and losing respect. But I couldn't resist the selfies tonight. :D
