This one is not *my own pic* but works... hole needs to be a little smaller, just bigger than their heads so bodys can't get in... and resized weekly as they grow...

I notice in this pic they are on wire above the floor. I use deep bedding (12-18 inches to start) and add more every day. Pine shavings.

The last batch has been in the brooder a week too long because I haven't got the new shelter built and the floor is a total mess. water leaking out everywhere. Last year when we cleaned out the duck brooder it was smoking hot. Actually had a batch catch fire in the bed of the gator.

Lot of commercial duckling brooders are raised wire, but I do not like it for their feet...

Shavings is better... waterer on a grate over a cake pan helps with water spillage...

Ok You're going to need a gamebird starter feed and a place to brood them. You'll want a nice waterer and room for them to run around. @Ravynscroft can you pop in with a pic of your waterers. For the first few weeks (for me its three--but I'll defer to ravyn if she offers different instructions. I also give them baby grit and brewers yeast (not bread yeast), ravyn can tell you where to find niacin. Again welcome to BYC and most everything I've learned about ducks has been from Ravyn.

Congrats!! Ducklings are messy and lots of work, but sooo worth it!

@rjohns39 do you have those waterer pics I sent you? My SD card got corrupted and I lost a lot of pics...

Purina Flock Raiser works easiest for ducklings from beginning, if it's available in your area... I will be back later with links for brewers yeast and/or Niacin if needed...
