First I will start with the fact this is my first winter in the chicken game (started with chicks in April). During the fall my flock developed a sickness which I self diagnosed as Coryza which took my entire flock out of production. I know that is common with the sickness and after I read several threads it appears this is quite normal and I figured after several weeks they would resume laying. However that time has come and gone and additionally the days became shorter which i believe has added to production loss.

My questions are is there something special i should do for the chickens at this time? i have really not changed any routines since the summer months when i was getting good egg production.

I would value all of your experienced opinions and advice.

To sum it up im tired of just feeding these chicks and most importantly i am not too fond of store bought eggs.

You could add artificial light increasing day light period to 14 hours, or you could patiently wait. Hate those store bought eggs. Your girls will lay again. Day length is increasing slowly but surely.

Almost 10 hours from sunrise to sunset.
I am feeding Nutrena Feather Fixer at the moment to increase the protein as this was a recommendation from another local guy who has chickens. Back when i was getting better egg production i was using Purina Layena pellets, after i use up what i have was going to switch back to Layena because apparently what i am doing now doesn't work.

Anybody have any thoughts here? Recommendation on feed?
Not sure your budget for feed but shortly after I inherited my small flock I switched them over to a all organic non-gmo diet using real feed from Scratch and Peck, their Naturally Free Organic Layer along with their Cluckin’ Good Organic Herbs has done wonders for my flock, and I feel good about what they are eating. I have 6 hens (1 is currently in the middle of a molt and not laying), so out of 5 actual laying hens right now I am still getting 3-4 eggs a day with only 9 hours of daylight and frigid temps.
