As soon as I can find a nice quality one available around here. I was given a lead that an older couple in town has a pair of adults. Gonna try to stop by there today and inquire about puppies.

Thats so cool, My Mom has a two, and they are such GOOD dogs! They are "independant" thinkers, which is kind of a different experience to people used to something lik , say, a border collie. I have two small children and her pyrs are amazing with them! Congratulations (early)

Not to hijack your post, but can you tell me pros and cons of owning one? I've heard that they are good to protect poultry...but is that instinct or do you have to train them?

Pros:
-big, white fluffy teddy bears
-highly intelligent (know the difference between friend and foe whether it be animal or human)
-deep bark to scare away predators and unwanted guests
-for their size they don't eat as much as you might think

Cons
-they bark at anything and everything
-they shed (lots)
-smarter than most of their owners
-can be independent
-generally will wander (they don't know their owner's land stops
and that they aren't supposed to guard the whole neighborhood)
-short life-span compared to 'microwave' breeds (anything small enough to fit in a microwave that yips and yaps and would be considered a squeaky toy by a normal dog)
-did I mention they love to bark:)

We have a border collie that holds the world record for barking. My irish wolfhound mix holds the world record for shedding.
No luck finding one today, but I'm going to keep looking. People around here don't usually advertise in the paper, because the paper is only a weekly; so its word of mouth on who has puppies.

You'd be surprised. My wolfhound mix eats no more than any other dog, except for ankle biters which I will never have. Feed them a good quality food and their feed intake is average; not have to be brought in on a dump truck excessive.

Did you try petfinder? Unless you are looking to show the dog, or breed it you don't need the papers. I just got mine 2 weeks ago, well she is a mix, but they did have pure breeds on there. That is what I was going for, but I saw her picture and I was in love. So the pure breed was out and I got her! lol

Here are her pictures from when I first saw her on petfinder until now.

Have you considered a rescue organization. I'm pretty sure that a simple google search would hook you up to some breeders and rescue groups.

Good luck and post pics when you get yours.

I have. All my current critters are rescues, with the exception of the chickens. There are none near by and my DH insists it be a puppy.
