Hopefully you will find someone to look after your birds. I live in the country with lots of predators. Once a neighborhood mutt dug under my fence and killed one of my hens during the day when my DH and I were gone which is rare. I put some bait out to try and catch it. It did come back. I had put some leg traps in the original place but it dug under in another place. I must have scared it off because it didn't get any of the birds on the second attempt. Since then I have put up electric wire around the outside of my fence, My area is to large to lay any wire down and it would cost me a fortune. I had a possum try to dig under once but got zapped and let out a good scream and it was goodnight possum. I know some other critters have been in contact with the wire as I was sitting outside on my picnic table and a critter let out a scream so I figured it must have found the wire and got zapped too. Now I don't worry about leaving my pop door open for my birds day or night. I make sure they have plenty of feed and water.

We went away for a week in June. I got my son's friend who is in FFA to stop by. She could easily ride her bike to the house, and the extra food was in a bin on the covered porch. She only needed to fill the feeder one day, and changed the water twice, but the peace of mind it brought me was worth the $25 she earned. She did not let them into the run, but at the time they were only 6 weeks old and just new to the coop. I would call your county extension and get some names of some kids who are into chickens.
