I'm going with Australorp chickens. Didn't know there where blues and blacks.
Wanting a hatchery where I don't have to buy more than 10.
Want to buy all hens and one rooster.

I would first check around where you live, just in case there's a breeder in your vicinity. I'd also check Facebook poultry groups for your state/area too.

Otherwise, many folks don't get more than 10 from hatcheries, and most sell sexed chicks, so I'd try McMurray, Cackle, Hoovers, etc.

It would be great to pick them up but so far no luck any being close by.

I love my Australorps! I have 3 black and 2 blue. They were my best layers in their first and second years, for number of eggs.

Our local TSC always has black Australorps when they have chicks.

My first chicks, 14 years ago were black Australorps; right now I have two BA hens--love the breed! Have you posted in the Texas group of "Where am I? Where are You?" here on BYC to see if anyone has eggs/chicks/hens?

Getting back into chickens last year and opted for BLK AUS. Good layers, started laying at around 17-18 wks. Going into this yr they did take about 3 wks off because it was below zero for a few days. Back laying now and getting 3-4 a day from our 4 birds.

Glad you found some. I've been doing this a long time, tried lots of breeds, and so far Black Aussies are my fav. I don't think I'd want a flock without them. Fair warning, they are a bit vocal and demanding, but big girls and calm, not flighty and won't take on a 3-ft fence. Feisty but lazy, kinda like me. Love 'em!
