I'm gonna bury it. Need suggestions!

Because I want to guard my coop against gopher holes, I am going to bury either hardware cloth or welded wire. Which material should I pick? How deep should I put it so my chickens never injure their cute feathered feet? It will be about 10x10 in size so I will need to attach the material together because it seems there isn't a 10x10 width anywhere. How do I hook it together? How long will it last underground? It hardly rains here. The dirt is kinda dry and hard. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Why not install a predator apron? You don't need to dig and it installs on the outside of the run and coop.

We have a gopher problem in my yard and I don't want holes in my chickens dirt floor coop. I am also doing the apron for the outside as well.

Do an L shaped apron outside the run, down ~12" and out ~18".

Unless you dig down 3', or more, your not stopping gophers.

I have gophers and moles. In the old coop rats were using those holes to get in for a free meal at night. While building the new coop I saw a mole/gopher trying to tunnel into the run - so I decided to HC the floor as well. My wife fears snakes and we have rattlers in the area, so an extra $50 on HC was pretty cheap insurance against dealing with that, lol. Also the floor is less area/material than my skirt required - but I did both because I could.

I couldn't excavate as deep as I'd have liked, due to tree roots, but I did go down several inches before installing the HC - then put the dirt back + lots of wood chips over the top. Haven't noticed any holes going down to it yet
