I have a few mango pits and want to try to grow them I live in MA so I dont think ill be able to grow it outside, maybe during the summer in a pot.And I want it to be kept pruined down so it doesnt ge to huge.Right now im soaking them in warm water for 24 hours then ill put them in a big pot.Is there any tips any of you can give me?

Here is what I would say.....Having lived in the tropics a bit.

Mangos are really large hard wood trees that take years before the fruit.

However Papaya will produce fruit from seed in as little as 9 months sometimes. Papayas can produce bushels of fruit off a 3 foot tree, so it might work better inside than a mango will.

I understand that you may prefer mangos, but its just a thought.

I did just find this

so it might be worth a try.

you will need to have indoor lighting whe you bring it in. Grow light will do. It will also like mistings of water and direct sun.

I have papaya's , grapes, oranges, grapefruit, banana's, lemons, avacado's and leeche nuts. Mango grow at my brothers and they are huge! In a pot you can stunt them and still get great fruit! hey, it's worth the try. Mango's are yummy!

Check out the link at the bottom of the page to BYC's sister site The Easy Garden. Maybe someone there can help advise you about growing fruit trees in containers.

Also check out http://forums.GardenWeb.com/forums they have many many many different forums and you might get some good advice there. Look on the list to see which ones might suit you best.

Also, look for The After-Dinner Gardening Book by Richard W. Langer. It talks about all sorts of plants you can grow from seeds & other parts of the foods you eat.

Edited to get the website link right.
